"White Fences"

(by NEEDTOBREATHE) White Fences - The Reckoning

I almost forgot about my Saturday post! We spent part of the day with my mom & G, then we went to see my uncle at Dad's house. We got home & started the bedtime process before I remembered that I hadn't posted anything today!

I had several great days in a row this week: Christmas Day, the next day with all of my brothers, and Christopher's CLEAR SCANS the following day!!!!!!! Then we spent the next evening with Amy's family, eating delicious soup & leftover Christmas sweets! :)

Before that was another bit of greatness...I got an incredibly exciting package in the mail on Christmas Eve:

It was full of home videos that we haven't been able to watch in many years! We got a new video camera around the time that Elizabeth turned five, and it didn't play the type of tapes we had before. We had around 15 videos {yes, I realize that's a little extreme} that we haven't been able to watch in all of that time. Groupon had a super great deal that allowed me to get all of the tapes transferred to DVD for around 1/3 of the usual price! I didn't think they'd arrive before Christmas, though, so I was quite happy with the early present! We stayed up way too late watching some of them on Christmas Eve. But it was totally worth it to see their adorable little personalities! ♥ And I had forgotten how sweet their little baby sounds were! We have footage of both of them laying there cooing, and I just want to reach inside the TV and squeeze them one more time. Sorta bittersweet, I suppose. But I love it, even if it does make me miss those little babies. I plan on watching several more of the videos before the kids go back to school!

Alrighty, I better get to bed. I posted today's song because I wanted to, not because I listened to it the most. NTB sent it in a Christmas email, & I realized that I had never posted it. I hope you enjoyed it! & if you didn't listen to it, you should totally do so right now! ♥

"He Ain't Heavy...He's My Brother"

(by The Hollies) He Ain't Heavy... He's My Brother - The Hollies' Greatest Hits

All four of my dad's kids were under one roof yesterday! That means that I got to be with all three of my brothers at one time!! Two or three of us have been together throughout the years, but this was the first time in 14 or 15 years that all four of us were together. And at Christmas!! Dad was quite happy, as you'd expect! :)

And if you can believe this, I didn't have to twist anybody's arm to get pictures! Kerry {the one voted "Most likely to avoid the camera at all costs"} brought it up and actually said that we needed more than one picture! {shock!} It has been around 21 years since the four of us have taken a picture together, so I guess he figured it was time! I had also secretly hoped to replicate an old picture that I remember coming across at Dad's recently, but I figured they wouldn't go for it. Little did I know that Aaron & Ivar had gone through some pictures before Kerry & I got there, and they discovered a couple of old ones that they wanted to replicate! Seriously, I was ecstatic! They didn't find the picture I had in mind (where I was holding Aaron), but they found these two:

We took some "normal" pictures, too...

& some with Dad...

And the kids...

We totally forgot to get the spouses in there. Fail. We did manage to get the "twins", though:

{Y'all have no idea how big of a deal this is...Kerry refuses to match someone, yet he allowed this picture to be taken! One time years ago, he & Wendy were both wearing t-shirts from their honeymoon. They were different shirts, but they said the same thing. When I pointed it out, he changed. He's funny like that! ü We'll just consider this another Christmas miracle!}

And if you'd like to see even more pictures {most of which I posted on fb, so you may have already seen them!} feel free to watch this little slide show:

{there are even more, but I figured nobody but me would care to see them!}

Do you get together with your siblings very often? Do you take pictures with them when you do? If so, do you pose as strangely as these siblings? {you should seriously click that link & watch the slideshow... Odd, I tell ya!} Do you have some sort of photo tradition, sibling or otherwise? I'd love to hear about it!

"The First Noel"

(by Future of Forestry) The First Noel - Advent Christmas EP

We had a nice Christmas day at home. This was the first time in a looong time that we haven't traveled on Christmas day, and it was nice! We slept in a little & ate breakfast before opening presents. Then we spent the afternoon just chillin' at home. :)

I've already posted most of these pictures on facebook. But in case you didn't see them, these are a few of my favorites...

Elly made a Santa hat for Davy! ;)

Baby girl got me a few little goodies...

...but even better than goodies was something she attached to the outside of the package. I found out why she had been collecting the pieces of her lunch napkin that I write on: she had pasted them to a piece of paper & wrote, "I saved lots of these for awhile and it's my turn to say...I ♥ U too!" {♥}

And my absolute favorite picture of the day...

We'll be hanging out with my brother & his family tomorrow morning. Then we're getting together with Dad, Christina, & BOTH of my little brothers after that!! We didn't think that Ivar was going to be able to make it, but he is! And of course, we're super excited to celebrate Christmas with Aaron at home this year!!

I hope you've had a wonderful Christmas!

"The Ballad of Davy Crockett"

(by Asleep at the Wheel) The Ballad of Davy Crockett - Remembers the Alamo

Ballad of Davy Crockett by Asleep at the Wheel on Grooveshark

We had our community group Christmas party last Sunday night! In addition to eating yummy food & opening gifts, we played a little game where I instructed them to draw certain things on a paper plate on top of their heads {for more on this game, you can read the instructions where I originally found them}

Here are a few of the finished masterpieces:

As we've done every year, the girls brought real gifts & the guys brought White Elephant gifts. But before I get to the gift part, I need to share a little background information...the morning before the party, Chris looked at me with mock offense and said, "Where is Davy Crockett?" {He was referring to his gift from last year's party. All year I have been hiding Davy, and Chris kept finding him...& proudly displaying him on our entertainment center, mantel, piano, etc.} Anyways, I replied, "I was hoping you'd give it away at the Christmas party tomorrow night." To which he said, "You should put your hope in Jesus." :/

He did end up wrapping Davy for the gift exchange, and Brian happened to open it first thing! Chris stole it as soon as he got the chance, and nobody had the guts (or desire) to steal it from him. He promptly displayed him on the piano again, and Clyde later sang a love song to him:

Later on, Chris realized that Davy had disappeared...

When he was unable to find him, he showed everyone that he was serious business about getting him back! ;)

So someone opened the microwave door to reveal where Davy had been stashed!

& I've been warned by Wheeler that if I get rid of Davy he'll replace him. :/

"Maybe Next Christmas"

(by Matthew Mayfield) Maybe Next Christmas - Maybe Next Christmas EP

Maybe Next Christmas by Matthew Mayfield on Grooveshark

So I've been a complete failure at posting Christmas-y things this year. Maybe next Christmas...I do still plan on telling y'all about our community group Christmas party. Maybe I'll get a chance over the next couple of days.

We basically have no plans for Christmas yet, which is a little bit crazy. I used to have every bit of my life planned out, but not so much anymore. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing! Anyways, we used to do the "North Texas Tour" beginning every Christmas day after lunch...I described it a couple of years ago, but basically we'd spend a few days (up to a week sometimes) after Christmas traveling up to the DFW area & beyond. We would visit most of our family up there, staying at a different place every night or so. Sadly, events have changed over the past year or two, and three out of the four places we used to stay are no longer feasible. As you may recall, a year ago today my Grandmommy went home to be with Jesus. Since then, both of Christopher's grandmothers have passed away as well (GMC in January & Babushka in September). So we won't be seeing any grandparents this year [I don't have any left, and Christopher's remaining grandfather lives in Indiana] & don't know if we'll see his dad. Kendra's family {who we used to see each Christmas} all have moved to the panhandle now, which is a little far to travel in such a short amount of time. With Christopher's scans on Thursday, we'll just see Uncle Dan & Aunt Sheryl at some point after that.

As for my family, we haven't made any set plans yet, either! Dad was hoping that Ivar would be able to visit, but it doesn't look like that'll work out. The rest of us will get together at some point, though! And I'm sure we'll visit Mom & G this week, too. We just haven't worked out any of the details yet.

Anyways, a few exciting things happened this week...

Mine & Christopher's Christmas present arrived a little early! We got an espresso machine {which I affectionately refer to as "Lady Gaggia"}:

Our church's annual hayride & cookout was last night! I didn't actually go on the hayride because it was too cold! I knew that if I was freezing just sitting there, I would be frozen solid if I was in the back of a moving trailer. But I enjoyed hanging out with friends & seeing my church family enjoy their evening!

{ftr, we weren't sending mixed signals with the signs saying "Welcome" & "Go"! We had the check in table sorted by last names, & you can't see the other two signs in this pic...}

Kelly passed around Santa hats & such...I think Russ was a good sport wearing this hat with elf ears! :)

This morning, I went to a baby shower for my good friend Amanda!!

& because it was funny when Catherine went all camera-happy, I'll share a few of the outtakes, too! :)

{Hey Amanda, what if we played Bible character charades...?}

Alrighty, I guess that's all for now! Today's song isn't accurate, but I don't really know what I listened to the most. I used it because of my Christmas post failings & my hopes for doing better next Christmas! ;) I hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend! ♥

"Behold the Lamb of God"

(by Andrew Peterson) Behold the Lamb of God - Behold the Lamb of God: 10th Anniversary Edition

Behold the Lamb of God by Andrew Peterson on Grooveshark

Chris & I went to a concert with our friends Clyde & Nicole last night! It was Andrew Peterson's Behold the Lamb of God Tour, and it was amazing! I really had no idea what I was in for. But they invited us, and we like music. So we agreed to go...and I'm so glad! I had really only heard one Andrew Peterson song that I knew of, but it turns out that I've heard more of his stuff & just didn't realize it. Plus, he has been associated with loads of other artists that I've enjoyed for the past couple of decades, so I thought that was cool. And some of them have been &/or currently are a part of this tour (ie. at least three Caedmon's Call members, Sixpence, Brandon Heath, Buddy Miller, Bebo Norman, and many more).

Before I forget [& because Marcie may care to know this]: we totally ran into our friend Ross King! {I use the term friend loosely...I've probably only had a total of three conversations with him: one via email, one in person, and one via Twitter. But Clyde knows him, & Chris has played bass with him when he led worship at our church...}

Anyways...the night began with maybe six of them each singing a song or two of their own. In addition to Andrew Peterson...

...this year's artists included Andrew Osenga...

...Andy Gullahorn and his beautiful wife, Jill Phillips...

...and several others:

There was one artist in particular that I was delighted to discover was a part of the tour: Matthew Perryman Jones! {Can you believe it, Natalie?! We were just discussing him!}

The second half of the night was the performance of Behold the Lamb of God, which is described as "the TRUE tall tale of the coming of Christ". It's a collection of songs about Jesus, beginning in the Old Testament with Moses and continuing through the kings & prophets, and even including a song about Christ's lineage! ü {It's called "Matthew's Begats"!} Behold the Lamb of God is just beautiful, y'all.

For more about the tour, check out this video:

It's too late for you to go this year, but I'll try to remember to post it again next year when you might still have a chance to find a concert near you!

Have you attended any neat Christmas performances lately?
