"High School"

(by Superchick)

High School by Superchick on Grooveshark

So my kiddos started school yesterday, and I seriously can't believe quickly they're growing up! I think I say that every year, but this year was a bigger deal than any year yet!

First of all, my baby girl started high school!!

What?! I'm not gonna lie...I didn't handle this as well as I thought I would. I held myself together for all of two minutes after dropping her off, and then I cried for the next five! :'(

Funny story, though...I was talking to my friend Mallory & her sister on Sunday, and I said something about my babies being at home. Mallory gave me a hard time, because her sister didn't know anything about my kids and probably thought that I actually had babies at home. So then the next day, I posted a picture of Elly's high school on Instagram, and Mallory made me laugh with her comment...My caption was something like, "How is it possible that I just dropped my baby girl off here?!" And her reply was: #BabiesTakeOverHS! ü

Speaking of my babies, my sweet boy started junior high yesterday!

I tried to get a normal pose, but he's a goofball! When I took the kids' pictures yesterday, it was the first time I had posed them next to each other in awhile. I hadn't realized how much taller Cody is than Elly!! Not only is he taller, but his face has changed and everything! The following picture shows the difference in just one year:

Isn't that craziness?!

"Win My Soul"

(by Ross King)

You have no idea how happy I was when I saw that Ross had posted a lyric video for this song!! It's one of my favorites from the new album and happens to be the song I listened to the most! And because I feel the need to prove that this really is one of my favorites...my last tweet was from the chorus of today's song:

{And apparently my last tweet was 11 days ago...because not only am I a failure at blogging, but I'm also a failure at tweeting! If I can't even manage to tweet 140 characters or less over the past 11 days, then you know I'm having trouble blogging!}

Anyways, the highlights of my week were...

...finishing up some back-to-school shopping with my baby girl {did I tell you that she's starting high school tomorrow?!?!}

...dinner with Dan, Amanda, and their adorable, amusing, and flexible kids:

...a back-to-school party at The Warehouse where I forgot to get my camera out until the end when I saw these boys & their [unplanned] matching outfits:

...dinner at our friends' house in the country {where I completely failed to get my camera out...this is getting to be a terrible habit!}

...getting a new key so that maybe I won't get locked out of my house again {have I told y'all that I've been locked out twice in the last month? Good times...}

I guess that's all for now! My room is almost complete, and I will definitely post pictures when it's done! I almost posted another little sneak peek, but decided it would reveal too much. So you'll just have to wait! :) I hope y'all have a wonderful week! ♥

"The End of Summer"

(by Steel Monkeys)

Wow, y'all, we've reached the end of summer...I can't believe how quickly it has passed!

Between the kids' camps (2 different weeks)...

...our local mission trip {that I never blogged about ~ sorry!}...

...the kids' road trip with the youth group...

...my brother-in-law's visit (for 2 weeks)...

...and our little British friend's visit (also for 2 weeks)...

...that left just two "normal" weeks of our summer!

When you add in various youth events {that I also never blogged about}...

...it was so busy that it went by way too fast!! I'm not complaining one bit, though, because it was full of fun stuff!

How was your summer? I'd love to hear about it!!

"My One Response"

(by The Vintage Band)

I hope y'all haven't given up on me and this whole blogging thing. Maybe I'll settle into a routine and blog a little more consistently once school starts. Or maybe I'll get too busy with work & blog about as regularly as I have been lately. I'll be working more then, so that probably won't happen. But I'll try! {Did I even tell y'all that I'll be working more?!}

OK, let me try to fill you in on the highlights of the last couple of weeks now...

Sarah went back to England last weekend, but we did a few things before we left. We went to see Planes, did a little shopping, and went bowling!

All of our scores were horrible.

I bowled left-handed, so I have an excuse... ;)

We also went to the beach, which was super fun {except for Sarah & me getting cut by some rocks in the water!}

We were sad to see Sarah go back home. She's like another daughter to me. I know that her friends and family would miss her, but I'd be totally fine with her moving here!
Ü

I put a little date on the calendar last week:

Speaking of weddings...last Sunday was Kloé's bridal shower! Kloé {as in Toey, who I mentioned in the Venture post} is our youth pastor's bride-to-be, and I love her! Nine of us hosted the shower (because the whole church was invited), and it turned out so nice! We had it at Amy's house, and she did such a great job with the decorations. There are pictures from a real camera somewhere, but I took these few to send to a friend who wasn't able to make it to the shower:

Crazy little story...my morning had been a little busy with church and youth. Then I stayed for the first part of the third service to see one of my girls get baptized. I wrapped up a few last-minute details for the shower and left the church in time to grab a bite to eat on the way to Amy's. When I got to her house & started to unload, I discovered this:

In my rush to get to Amy's, I had set my coffee mug on top of the punch bowl box in my back seat and accidentally left it there! As a testament to my good driving skills, my mug (with some coffee still inside) managed to stay right where I left it!

In other exciting news...my friend Elaine is helping me with a little bedroom transformation! And when I say helping me with, I mean doing. I took hardware off of a couple of things, but that's basically it. She's amazing, and I can't wait to show you the finished room!!

Soooo...one bad thing about not blogging very often is the fact that I inevitably leave things out. There are several youth events (with pictures) that I haven't talked to y'all about, and I'm sure there are other things as well. I also meant to take pictures of some clothes that I got super great deals on, but I'm a failure at taking pictures {of anything, really, but especially my outfits!} I thought about it this afternoon, but I had baby drool {or maybe baby snot? I'm going with drool! ü} all over the front. But when a cute baby wants to give you a hug, it doesn't matter what may end up getting on your super cute new shirt! ♥ Anyways, if I remember anything blogworthy &/or remember to take pictures later, I'll try to remember to actually post it.

As for the song, it's one that Ross King wrote with the guy in the video. None of the new stuff is available for me to post for y'all, but Ross' version is the song that I listened to the most this week. Because it's super. I like this version, too, but I mainly posted it because it's on Ross' new album. Speaking of...I posted a little giveaway the other day, and I've decided to give two copies of the album away!! Brooke & Natalie, you both get one!! How about that?! Y'all can just message me to let me know whether you'd like a physical or digital copy. Either way works for me, but [obviously] you'd get a digital copy faster!

Alrighty, I better get to bed! Please disregard any typos. I'm too tired to go back over this post to look for them! I hope y'all have a wonderful week!! ♥

"Sin is Powerless"

(by Ross King)

**There's a problem with iTunes linkmaker at the moment, but you can go to iTunes, search for the album, and preview all of the songs. I wanted to the get this posted as soon as possible, and I don't have time to unlink everything. Once the links are able to be fixed, I'll fix them!** They're working now!

I'm sorry I've been MIA around here. I just haven't had a spare moment to post anything until now! But my friend Ross King came out with a new album, This Hope Will Guide Me, this week! I'm most excited about today's song {I have been waiting on a recording of it for around two years!!} but I can't find a version to post for y'all. You can listen to part of it on iTunes, though. And obviously, you could buy it, too. If I were you, I'd buy the whole album.*

Though I've been MIA on Twitter for even longer than this blog, I've been posting some of the album lyrics on there throughout the day (because they're super), and I thought I'd share some with you, too. Though I'm not limited to 140 characters each, I'll try to be brief...

You are peace when war is all around us. You are rest when our souls are tired. (from "Evermore")

Oh, God, You've overtaken us. You never stop. You won't give up. You're stronger than our sin. We know Your love is real and true. It comes to heal us through and through, time and time again. Your kindness knows no end. Who is this God who keeps on chasing after us even in our sin? What is this kindness You have shown us? Waves and waves of love come crashing in. (from "Your Kindness Knows No End")

Unbroken, relentless, Your love for me is endless. I have but one response. Hands open, defenseless, unguarded in Your presence. This is where I belong. (from "My One Response")

Praise the One who climbed the hill & stormed the very gates of hell & went to war with death itself to win my soul. (from "Win My Soul")

There is no guilt, no shame, no hold on us. You are victorious. And there is no curse, no blame, no fear in love. Now sin is powerless. (from "Sin Is Powerless")

OK, I'll stop now, but know that there's much more where that came from!

*Were you wondering what the asterisk was about? Well...I've decided that the album is so good that I want to give one of you a copy. {I'd actually love to give all of you a copy, but I can't quite afford to do that!} Like my previous giveaways, all you have to do to enter is leave me a comment saying that you'd like to win this super great album. If your settings don't allow me to email you back through the comments, you can use the "Email Me" button instead (so I can contact you if you win). If you tweet about it or something, you can earn another entry. You don't have to mention me or my blog, just mention Ross and his new album. I'm not trying to gain anything from this. I just think more people need to hear the truth in this album. You have until Saturday, August 17th, at noon (CST). I'll have one of my sweet kids draw a name, and I'll post the winner in my normal Saturday post. {This means I have to actually post on Saturday!} Just let me now what you've done by the deadline! ♥

***the giveaway is now closed, but you should totally check out Ross King's music***

"Good Morning"

(by Mandisa, feat. Toby Mac)

Good Morning (feat. TobyMac) by Mandisa & tobyMac on Grooveshark

My baby girl made me one of the best birthday presents ever!! It was inspired by a coffee mug that I thought was pretty clever:

(found here)

My friend Fran had posted a picture of that coffee mug on facebook one day, and I could totally relate! Just that morning at work, I had experienced some difficulty finding my words in a conversation with Lance. I had explained to him that I had only consumed about an ounce of coffee so far {I think I actually said two tablespoons. Though it isn't necessarily wrong to say it that way, liquids are generally measured in ounces. I'm pretty sure I would've said it correctly if I'd had more coffee!} So when I saw the picture of the "Fill Line" mug, it perfectly described how full my coffee mug was at the time of my stammering attempt at a conversation that morning! In fact, after Lance saw the picture, he said, "You were worse actually." :P

So I posted the mug picture on Instagram {with a hashtag that went something like this: #MyBirthdayIsComingUp} And what do you know?! Baby girl made me a mug that was even better!

Not only is it a mug with "fill lines", but it's covered with song lyrics! And not just any old song lyrics, either. While I had been out for dinner with my birthday girls, my baby girl had gone through my iTunes to find lyrics from songs of mine that would describe the progression of how I might be feeling from the time that I take my first sip to the point that I've reached the bottom of the cup. In case the picture is hard to read, these are the lyrics as she wrote them:

-------------------------
Wake up! Wake up! - Gungor
We're awakening! - Switchfoot
Keep your eyes open my love! - NEEDTOBREATHE
-------------------------
I can't live in a world without you now. - Relient K
Please don't worry now, it will turn around cause I need more time - NEEDTOBREATHE
So hold on! Hold on! Hold on! Hold on! - Jonas Brothers
-------------------------

I'm alive! I'm alive! That's what I say. - Superchick
Here comes the sun. - The Beatles
Hello sunshine it's been too long since I felt your beautiful warmth upon my face. - BarlowGirl
So now I'll go and brighten up somebody's day. - MoZella

And in case you aren't familiar with some of the songs, I created a little playlist:
Coffee Mug Songs by Amy on Grooveshark

Pretty creative, huh?! What's the most creative gift you've given or received? Or if you haven't had enough coffee to think of anything, then you can just answer this question: are you able to communicate in full sentences before having caffeine?

"You Keep Loving Me"

(by Jenny & Tyler)

I'm late two weeks in a row...I know. I had every intention of posting yesterday, but my day got away from me. I would say that I'm sorry except for the fact that we were having a lovely time with Sarah, so I'm not really sorry that I didn't have a chance to post! ♥ Going to The Chocolate Bar is a tradition when our British friends visit {or any friends, really!}

So we took Sarah to the one in Rice Village, because she wanted to do a little shopping at Urban Outfitters. We also went to what I will probably always refer to as the Transco Tower [even though it was renamed years ago] & water wall while we were in Houston.

And apparently I'm a failure as a mom, because Cody informed me that he had never been there until last night! {Oops!} Sarah took loads of great pictures, and it was hard to pick just a few of them for y'all. If you'd like to see more, let me know...

As for the rest of my week...it was my birthday week, so of course it was super!! I've had birthday dessert every day for the past eight days! Because I know you really don't want to see that many pictures of me with dessert, I've combined a few. I got the Brownie Blast at a BBQ place on Sunday, and I got the new apple turnover when my aunt was in town on Monday (at my dad & his sibling's favorite place to eat when they're in town)...

Tuesday night was dinner with my birthday girls, and we shared the Brownie Surprise & Apple Walnut Cobbler. We tried to get a picture with both desserts, but we had a few technical difficulties...

Chris had some cupcakes waiting for us after Bowl Games on Wednesday night {I haven't forgotten to tell y'all about the first one. As usual, I haven't gotten pictures yet! This one was another Water Olympics, hence the wet hair...} And Chris insisted that I eat a piece of chocolate cake at Jason's Deli today...

I didn't get a picture of the delicious dessert we had at Pat & Marlene's on Thursday or the cake balls on Friday, but we got one of my yummy ice cream at The Chocolate Bar on Saturday!

:)

Other than birthday stuff...VBS was this week, so it has been quite busy! I didn't help out this year (because I have a job & all), but the kids did & had a great time! While they were at VBS, I worked some & did a little shopping for a bridal shower next Sunday, some work stuff, and some furniture stuff! {more on the furniture stuff later...I promise!} We had lunch with Jana & the kids after VBS one day, and we ran errands before & after a visit to the chiropractor another day {while we were locked out of the house...} And I discovered that my co-worker's wife works for the man who was my pastor in middle school (who also happens to be the father of my all-time favorite baseball player)! Cool, huh?

Alrighty, I've rambled on long enough. I probably should've broken that down into a few separate blog posts, but then I'd have to find a song for the topics. And I don't seem to have the time for stuff like that these days. Speaking of songs, I'm not real sure how today's song ended up being listened to the most. We were listening to Jenny & Tyler a lot, but I thought one of the other songs would've been higher on the list. It's good stuff, though, so you should listen to the song when you get a chance!

OK, I'm going to bed. I hope y'all have a wonderful week!! ♥
