"The Broken Beautiful"

(by Ellie Holcomb)

Wow, y'all, I think this is the longest I've gone with posting in all of my time with this little blog. I keep meaning to post something, but I never seem to have the time. I still have a post or two about India in the works, and I haven't told y'all about LA or ABQ. Man, I'm a slacker! Maybe I'll have a little more time in the summer?! We'll see...

I was going to make this one of those posts (that Brooke likes) where I try to make up for my lack of blogging with a bunch of pictures! But I've done a few things with no pictorial evidence that are totally worth mentioning (for my sake, at the very least)...

I had brunch with Laura one day, and it was so nice to catch up with her! We have both been working more and haven't been able to get together like we used to. Sadly, that's the case with a lot of my friends these days :(

I attended a baby shower for Lance & Melissa! ü Have I even told y'all that they're having a baby?! Mel found out just after we left for India, and Lance found out in the airport parking lot when we got back...! They have two beautiful girls and will be welcoming a little boy into the mix by the end of summer! :)

We went to a crawfish boil at our friends' Daniel & Maria's last Sunday afternoon! They invited my family & our friend John over, and we had so much fun! I failed to take any pictures, but I managed to capture some video of a dancing doodlebug! Lame, I know, but we were quite entertained for awhile...

Yes, I know, that's two minutes of your life that you'll never get back! On to other things...

Though I'm a little behind on this, I didn't get a chance to tell y'all about Mother's Day!!

Cody gave me flowers & chocolate {that he bought with his own money!}

Elly gave me a new coffee mug & super cute Turvis :)

They all gave me a bird bath for my garden...

...and made me lunch!

We also went to see my mom & were surprised to find out that my brother and his family were joining us! It was great!

Aside from Mother's Day...

We restored Silvie's headlights {it's exciting around here, I tell ya!}

You'll be glad to know that I have refrained from kicking a certain neighbor dog who keeps digging up our landscaping and downspout extension thingys...

{I wouldn't really kick him, but he does make me angry!}

And on to more exiting things...

I was Kristin's Woman Crush Wednesday! {that sort of thing doesn't happen to me all that often, so I had to tell y'all about it!} :)

My sweet boy was inducted into National Junior Honor Society!

And while we were waiting for the ceremony to start, Elly & I took "Cody selfies" (where we made faces like he does)...

...and we took one normal picture :)

We saw Christopher play bass at a high school choir concert:

I went to Cody's pep rally/awards assembly, where I got to see this awesome tuxedo coat again:

I also got to see Cody, of course! :)

Sigh. I think that about covers the past few weeks! I hope y'all are having a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! ♥

"Marvelous Light"

(by Ellie Holcomb)

I didn't get a chance to post over the weekend because I was out of town for my beautiful cousin Kendra's baby shower!! I flew up there on Friday and came home yesterday. It was a great weekend with great people! ü I got to stay at Kirby & Catherine's, and I was able to spend a lot of time with Uncle Chris & Aunt Karla, too! I didn't get to see Kevin until Sunday morning at church (because he had been out of town for a track meet), but I was able to have lunch with him before I left for the airport. Anyways, I know that what you really want to see are pictures! So here you go...

I asked Catherine to take a picture of me with Kendra since I'm skinnier than her for once!

Here is Kendra with Catherine:

And here is Kirby with a 1-pound burger:

{that he ate in its entirety & was still not completely satisfied!}

That's basically all of the pictures that I took except for this one with a cute new infinity scarf that I got at a boutique across the street from where we had the shower :)

In other news, they broke ground on our new children's ministry building today!!

Before heading to the panhandle, my week was basically the same as usual. So I suppose that's all of the excitement that I have to share at the moment. I hope y'all have a wonderful week!! ♥

"Texas, Our Texas"

(performed by an honor choir that I found on YouTube)

Today is Texas History Day, so I thought I'd post a song that every Texas elementary student learned back in the day. Also, if you're bored & would like to read about the great state of Texas, you should check out an article about all of the goodness here. There are a few things missing & a few things I don't agree with, but it's a great article overall! I especially love #4, #8, #14, #17, #21, #47 & #50. I think #18 is funny (& accurate, though I didn't realize it was specific to Texas). And the comment under #41 is hilarious {& again, accurate, though I had no idea the rest of the country doesn't do that!} And I would've chosen a completely different picture for #36, because I don't think that picture gives an even remotely accurate representation.

I hope you have a wonderful Texas History Day! :)
