"Birthday"

(by the Beatles)

"You say it's your birthday
It's my birthday too, yeah
They say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you

Yes, we're going to a party, party...

I would like you to dance (birthday)
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance (birthday)
I would like you to dance (birthday)
Dance

You say it's your birthday
Well it's my birthday too, yeah
You say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you"

I'm on my way to my nephew's 6th birthday party! It's so exciting, because we SHARE a birthday! I'm the worst "birthday aunt" ever, though, because this is the first time I've made it to his party. The first couple of years, I was on a mission trip. I was on a retreat another time, vacation last year, & I can't remember the other time ~ but I know it had to have been important (or on the calendar first & not able to be rescheduled) for me to have missed his party! So, I'm quite happy to make it this year!! {I'll post a picture of us later!}

I'll try to post something soon about our anniversary. I have a super great family & had a really nice day, so I've got to tell you about it & post some pictures! Check back soon!

"When I Said I Do"

(by Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black) Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black - Clint Black: Greatest Hits II - When I Said I Do

"These times are troubled, and these times are good
And they're always gonna be, they rise and they fall
We take 'em all the way that we should
Together you and me, forsaking them all
Deep in the night and by the light of day
It always looks the same, true love always does
And here by your side, or a million miles away
Nothin's ever gonna change the way I feel,
The way it is, is the way that it was

Chorus:
When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Well this old world keeps changin', and the world stays the same
For all who came before, and it goes hand and hand
Only you and I can undo all that we became
That makes us so much more, than a woman and a man
And after everything that comes and goes around
Has only passed us by, here alone in our dreams
I know there's a lonely heart in every lost and found
But forever you and I will be the ones
Who found out what forever means

Chorus

Truer than true, you know that I'll always be there for you
That's what I had in mind
That's what I had in mind
When I said I do"

Today, Christopher & I have been married for 13 years! Considering the fact that last Fall I wasn't sure Chris would make it to this anniversary, I don't consider this "unlucky 13" at all! Isn't is something how a cancer diagnosis can change your perspective? When at any given point, he may not be here in 6 months (as my mister so bluntly puts it), I am extremely grateful that he has made it almost 11 months now with no metastasis! (I don't mean to always bring up the whole cancer thing ~ but obviously, it's never far from my thoughts). Anyways, I am so glad to be celebrating this anniversary with him! {I love you, Mister, & I'm so fortunate to have you in my life!}

For my regular readers, you may not have been aware that I've been participating in "Meetings, Marriages, & Memories" over at Musings of a Future Pastor Wife for the past few Mondays. As you may recall, I did a "Through the Years" series last Fall, so I have been posting the links to those posts each week. What I should have done was at least re-post them each Monday, so that my friends could get involved. I'm sorry about that! But, you can still read some great love stories by clicking on the above link. And, from what I understand, it's not too late to join in!

So, what I've decided to do here for our anniversary is put the links all together in one post. In the Fall, I wrote them in consecutive order, so you could just click on the "Through the Years" label at the bottom of this post & read them backwards. Or, you can click on the links below, one at a time ~ whatever you prefer to do! {I aim to please!!} [Also, if you care to hear the songs that aren't in the playlist below, my mister fixed my player! You should be able to see the little play button below the artist's name now ~ I'm not sure what the problem was before! I try to pick songs that are on the playlist website, but most of the songs in this series weren't on there.]

"Hurricane"

(by Jimmy Needham)

I'm really liking Jimmy Needham's latest album, Not Without Love. I was able to get it on Amazon last week for $1.99 (when it was a Deal of the Day). I had a few of his songs already, so I was pretty sure it would be worth the price! Today's song is my favorite one off this album.

It's just good...

The whole thing...

I'm the person who is always wanting to know the meaning behind a song, & I think it drives Christopher crazy! He tells me it's up to the listener's interpretation. But I always think that surely there was a reason the person wrote the song & I want to know what that is! So, I was delighted to see that Jimmy spelled the entire album out for us HERE! Have a wonderful weekend!!

"This Good Day"

(by Fernando Ortega)

I couldn't find the full version of this song, but that's OK, because not all of the lyrics apply! The title does, though, & the following words are great:

If rain clouds come
Or the cold winds blow
You're the One
Who goes before me
And in my heart I know

This good day
It is a gift from You
The world is turning in its place
Because You made it to
I lift my voice
To sing a song of praise
on this good day

Chris had an appointment with his Ocular Oncologist today, and we have some good news! His tumor has shrunk some, and the doctor is pleased. He said that it hasn't shrunk too much or too fast. From what we understand, the shrinkage means that the radiation has killed off some of the cancer cells, and the fact that it has happened slowly indicates that the cancer may not have been growing aggressively at the time that it was discovered. We don't have any measurements at this point, but we'll go over the photos & ultrasound pictures in more detail when we go back in October. Also, he'll have his scans again in September or October, so hopefully the results will be the same as last time, & there will be no metastasis. We really appreciate your prayers!

"Wipe Out"

(by The Surfaris)

Kendra, the kids, & I went to Galveston today!

From 2009 Spring & Summer

My little surfer boy had a great time jumping over waves & counting all of the fish that jumped in the air!
From 2009 Spring & Summer

Elly enjoyed playing in the sand ~ but by the end of our day, she was enjoying the water, too!
From 2009 Spring & Summer

Kendra & I tried not to get burnt {with SOME success!} We had a picnic lunch at the beach, along with some watermelon from a kind lady nearby! Then, we went to MOD Coffeehouse before we left the island {we had to do our part to help stimulate Galveston's economy!} It was a super fun day!

"One and the Same"

(by Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato) One and the Same - Disney Channel Playlist

"Hey hey hey
La la la la la la...

You come from here
I come from there
You rock out in your room
I rock a world premiere
We're more alike than anybody could ever tell

Friday we're cool
Monday we're freaks
Sometimes we rule
Sometime we can't even speak
But we can get up, let loose and lol

It may seem cliche for me to wanna say
That you're not alone
And you can call me uncool
But it's a simple fact
I've got your back

Yeah yeah yeah!

Cuz we're one and the same
We're anything but ordinary
One and the same
I think we're almost legendary
You and me, the perfect team
Chasing down the dream
We're one and the same

Hey hey hey
La la la la la la

I'm kinda like you
You're kinda like me
We write the same song in a different key
It's got a rhythm you and me can get along

And it may seem cliche for me to wanna say
That you're not alone
And you can call me uncool
But it's a simple fact
I've still got your back, yeah!

Cuz we're one and the same
We're anything but ordinary
One and the same
I think we're almost legendary
You and me, the perfect team
Shaking up the scene
We're one and the same

Cuz we're one and the same
We're anything but ordinary
One and the same
We're something more than momentary..."

My beautiful cousin Kendra is coming today!! This will be her 3rd summer to visit for a week or so. Being 15+ years younger, you'd think she'd have nothing in common with me, but we really are so much alike. She's just a slightly younger version of me, only cooler {OK, & taller, smarter & more beautiful!} When she is at our house, she just fits in like we don't even have a house guest. We do some shopping, go for coffee & to The Chocolate Bar, chill with the kids, watch [sometimes awful] movies {can anyone say Butterfly Effect 2?}, stay up way too late, take pictures in random places, etc. I have really enjoyed her visits, if you can't tell! The only down side is that she's driving her own car this time, so I don't get to pick her up in College Station & stop by Sweet Eugene's. We'll have to settle for some coffee around here, instead!

We took this picture of us last summer:

{I love her!}

"Your Love is Strong"

(by Jon Foreman)

I'm not sure why I haven't really listened to Jon Foreman until recently. I've been a Switchfoot fan for a long time now, so it makes sense that I'd like their front man. My favorite part of this song is:

I look out the window
The birds are composing
Not a note is out of tune or out of place
I look at the meadow
And stare at the flowers
Better dressed than any girl on her wedding day
So why should I worry?
Why would I freak out?
God knows what I need
You know what I need

I can really relate to those words. I have definitely been guilty of worrying & freaking out! I love the NLT version of Luke 12:24-31. It talks about how much more valuable we are to God than the birds that He feeds, & how much more He cares for us than the flowers He clothes so beautifully. Yet, we worry about what we will eat & drink, and whether God will provide it for us. Then, verse 30 phrases it best when it says, "These things dominate the thoughts of most people, but your Father already knows your needs." It's kinda cool how one look out the window can set things into perspective!

"100 Years"

(by Five for Fighting)

"I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I'm 22 for a moment

And she feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15, there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you've only got a hundred years to live

I'm 33 for a moment
I'm still the man, but you see I'm a "they"
A kid on the way, babe
A family on my mind

I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life

15, there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15, I'm alright with you
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you've only got a hundred years to live

Half time goes by
Suddenly you're wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on

I'm 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

15, there's still time for you
22, I feel her too
33, you're on your way
Every day's a new day

15, there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When you've only got a hundred years to live"

33 years ago today, my mister was born, weighing in at a whopping 4 lbs, 9 oz! {Yes, you read that right!} I had to share this adorable baby picture of the little man:

& here he is now, showing off his cancer survivor tattoo:

I love you, Mistopher! Happy Birthday!! I pray that we both live 100 years!

"Used To"

(by Daughtry)

In anticipation of the release of Daughtry's new album on Tuesday, I've been listening to the 1st album. I think Chris Daughtry's voice is just about the most beautiful thing out there...I have loved it since I first heard him on American Idol. I still can't believe it has taken this long for one of his songs to end up on this little ol' blog. And I also can't believe how long it has taken them to release their 2nd album. I've been anxiously awaiting its release ~> but seeing as it's happening on my mister's birthday & not mine, I just can't buy it that day. Is that silly?

I feel the need to share my favorite Daughtry memory...It was December of 2006, and the album had come out. It was Christmastime (obviously), so I couldn't buy it for myself! I just knew that my mister would get it for me for Christmas, or he'd have one of the kids get it for me. But Christmas day came & went, and there was no Daughtry album. I was OK with that. I honestly didn't even think about it when I opened my presents. Chris & the kids had put a lot of thought into their presents, so I was totally happy with what they thought were the perfect gifts for me.

We did our usual week-long after-Christmas "North Texas Tour" to visit family, then came home & got back into the normal swing of things. I handle the finances at our home ~ so when Chris finally gave me his receipts from before Christmas, I had to sort through them to decipher what budget category to code everything. I came across a Target receipt that showed the purchase of the Daughtry CD & was quite confused. I called Chris & asked him if he bought it, and he responded with a surprised & somewhat disappointed sounding "Oh!" He had hidden it inside one of my other presents, hoping to surprise me with it & get to see my reaction. But it wasn't something that I needed to open before we left on our trip, & he completely forgot about it until I called!

Yay for a surprise present, even if it doesn't go according to plan!

"The Chair"

(by George Strait)

From The theme song for today is...

Once again, the lyrics of today's song have absolutely nothing to do with my day, but the title does! Plus, what would this blog be without an occasional George Strait song?! I found this chair in someone's trash (gasp!) last week, & I thought I could fix it up. I've never picked up anyone's trash before, but I have been longing for a rocking chair! I have always LOVED to rock! I love sitting in a rocking chair while I read my Bible, drink coffee or tea, talk on the phone, etc. I have a glider on the front porch that can be used for these things, but honestly, it's summer in TEXAS! When it's 100+ degrees, that's just craziness!

I sold my glider/rocker in a garage sale last fall, with the intention of buying a new chair that would go in the living room. The problem was the fact that a new chair wouldn't fit in there! So, when I really got to thinking about it, it didn't make sense to spend money on one. Elly has a bright pink video rocker that she brings in there a lot, so I rock in that when she's not in it. But, at the risk of sounding like an old lady, my back just can't handle getting in & out of it!

So, I thought this chair could solve my problems (at least some of them) with only a little bit of work. It started out black (sorry, I didn't think to take pictures), but stripping it was WAY too much work. I'm no expert (OK, I'm not even a novice), so I did things the cheap & easy way. I just sanded off the really messed up parts, used screws & wood glue to fix a couple of broken parts, then spray painted it. I found the cushion at World Market (my favorite store) for only $3.24! {Yay for 50% off clearance sales!!}

I now have a beautiful not-so-beautiful, new (to me) Bible-reading, coffee/tea-drinking, phone-talking rocking chair!

"Rescue"

(by Seabird) Rescue

I don't know where I've been, but I'm just now finding out about this band! I checked them out after my friend commented me about them, and I am LOV.ING.THEM!! {Thank you, Natalie!! Her brother is playing bass for them ~ how cool is that?!} This song was co-written by Bear & Bo Rinehart of Needtobreathe, who I also LOVE. I'd have to say that the entire chorus is my favorite part of this song:

The earth moves and You find me, alive but unworthy
Broken and empty, but You don't care
'Cause You are my rapture, You are my Savior
When all my hope is gone, I reach for You
You are my rescue

I hope you like them, too! Happy 4th of July, everyone!!
