"Love Will Find You"

(by The Museum) Love Will Find You - My Only Rescue

As I mentioned in my last post, I've had a productive week but haven't done anything too incredibly exciting. But today is National Coffee Day, and I'm livin' it up good! I met Laurien at Starbucks in the morning... mister & I went on a coffee date in the afternoon! :)

...& tonight is our student ministry's first "Coffee Talk", which is a monthly event just for girls! We're having a sleepover at the church, and I'm hoping we'll get enough sleep to stay awake for worship service in the morning. I'll let you know how that goes... :)

OK, this is totally random, but I suppose you've come to expect that from me...Have you ever noticed that food tastes different outside than it does inside? I never noticed this until Marcie said it on Wednesday night. Lance & I (who were enjoying yummy baked goodness in the foyer at the time) promptly walked outside to prove her wrong test it out. What do you know? Our desserts didn't taste as sweet! How weird?! Let me know if you try it & get the same results!

On a sad note, Christopher's Grandma Babushka passed away this week. Between the two of us, we've lost three grandmas in less than a year (mine in December, and his other grandma in January). That sucks. Up until two years ago, all of his grandparents were still alive. Now he only has one grandfather left. It's so weird how that happens. Anyways, his family could certainly use your prayers.

In better news, Christopher is being ordained as an elder at our church tomorrow! Amy took a few pictures of Chris & me (for an email that went out to the church), so I thought I'd share a few with y'all:

I am loving today's song! My baby girl has been a fan of The Museum since they led worship at her camp last summer, but I hadn't really listened to their stuff until I got this song as a free download from Tooth & Nail/BEC this summer. My favorite line is, "But He sees inside your soul, where your past cannot define." ♥ I'll leave you with a few verses that this song brings to mind:

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)

"Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me." (Psalm 139:7-10)

I hope you're having a super great weekend! ♥

"Bohemian Rhapsody"

(by Queen + Adam Lambert)

Hi, friends! I'm sorry that I haven't been around much lately. I still plan on telling y'all about Austin, but I'm waiting on one more picture from one of the other girls. Other than that, I really haven't had anything blogworthy to post about!

For some reason, it has been a little harder to get into my back-to-school groove this year. I usually welcome the routine that school brings. This year has been different, and I still feel sorta off. I just haven't quite settled in to my routine, because I've had a few other things going on that have prevented me from actually finding my routine so far! Does that make sense?

But I have been productive, so I'm really not complaining! I've done most of my yearly doctor visits since school started. I saw my regular doctor for a check-up, and she said all of my numbers look great!  {I'm so not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but I'm used to hearing bad news at Christopher's doctors' appointments, so I like to share some positive stuff!} I've also been to the dentist for a cleaning, and the hygienist was surprised that I don't whiten my teeth! Here I was thinking that coffee has horribly messed them up, and she actually said they look pretty white. Yay! And I've been to the dermatologist as well. Strangely, she removed one little spot that I wouldn't have ever thought was an issue. [enter Melanoma Mama] You really should get yearly full-body mole screenings, as well as yearly dilated eye exams! Melanoma is for real, people. [That's all for now...] With that being said, my next appointment is an eye exam. Then I think I'm good for awhile!

I've also been doing a little sewing, though I haven't ventured into doing anything super exciting! I made the curtain for my laundry room {that I still plan on showing y'all after one final project} & have altered a few shirts. Sometimes I fall in love with a shirt, but it doesn't fit quite right. I'll buy it if it's cheap enough that if I accidentally ruin it while trying to take it in, I won't feel like I wasted much money. But then it usually hangs in my closet for awhile, because I really don't want to ruin it! So I've been tackling a few of those little projects lately. I also used a couple of tutorials to make a dress {using an old favorite shirt that had those weird little holes in it & a yard or so of fabric remnants that I got for cheap!} But the kids think the dress isn't my style. I may post a picture to get your opinion some time...

And I've also been busy with our current Bible study, but I decided to save all of that for another post!

OK, this is so minor in the grand scheme of life, but I'd like your opinion on something...Mister Christopher is going to get the new iPhone {not necessarily because he has to have the latest gadgets to be cool or something, but it really is a good idea for him or Freddy to get trendy devices that people will be viewing their websites on. As a programmer, he has to adjust the code to make things look right on different screens. Or so he tells me...} Anyways, I generally get his hand-me-downs, so I'll be having to say goodbye to my super cute phone case {you can see it in a random picture at the bottom of a random post ~ go figure!} I've been looking for a new one & have narrowed it down to these two:

Yes, I'm aware of the fact that my Photoshop skills are sorely lacking, but Chris isn't here to do it right. Terrible picture aside, I'd like to know which one y'all like best!

Wow, I wrote so much that I may have nothing to share with y'all on Saturday! Oh well, I think I may know what song it'll be already. And I think you'll like it! I hope y'all have a wonderful day, and please let me know which case is cuter! Thank you! :)

P.S. Today's song has absolutely nothing to do with my life or anything. Amy sent me the link a long time ago, and I've been wanting to post it. No, Adam Lambert doesn't really hold a candle to Freddie Mercury. But if anyone can come anywhere close to having the chops to do a Queen song, it's definitely Adam. I don't care what Wade or anybody else says, that man has talent! And the fact that Queen actually toured with Adam tells me that they agree! :P

"All This Glory"

(by Passion feat. David Crowder*Band) All This Glory (feat. David Crowder*Band) - White Flag (Deluxe Edition)

All This Glory (Feat. David Crowder*Band) by Passion on Grooveshark

Overall, this has been a great week! Community Groups started back up. I got to hang out with several friends. We had a good MOPS meeting on Friday. I got my flu shot somewhat successfully {I bled like crazy! Have you ever heard of that?! The nurse made me hang around for 10 minutes to make sure I was OK!} We celebrated our friend Michael's 30th birthday last night. And today, I went to a crop with my sister-in-law, and my kiddos got to hang out with their cousins! :)

I spent 4 hours & 45 very frustrating minutes dealing with incessantly beeping smoke alarms yesterday. It was a good chunk of my day that I will never get back, and I was not a happy camper! Apparently if you replace one battery, you have to replace them all. I didn't know that at first, or else it wouldn't have taken so long. After two trips to the store (for batteries), two trips to Kristi's (once to watch her boys & get a break from the noise + the other time to borrow a battery to avoid a 3rd trip to the store), about a hundred trips up and down the ladder (with no serious injuries!), & one trip to Dad's (to do him a favor ~ totally non-alarm related, but it accounts for about 45 minutes), the beeping finally stopped when Chris turned the power off & did something with one of the batteries. :/ On the bright side...I now know exactly how many smoke alarms I have, and I think I know how to handle this situation in the future!

I'm loving today's song right now! Elly bought the Passion: White Flag CD at camp this summer, but we've mostly just listened to her favorites. I really hadn't paid much attention to this song until the other day when I heard the last few words:

Jesus Christ has come, and love has won

There's just something about the way David Crowder delivers that line that makes my heart do a somersault. I don't know if that makes sense, but I don't know how else to describe it. Anyways, the whole song is good, and you should totally listen to it!

I hope y'all are having a super great weekend! ♥

"Echo Off the Sky"

(by Poema) Echo Off the Sky - Sing It Now - EP

Echo Off The Sky by Poema on Grooveshark

Elly & I have been listening to girl music this week ~ mainly Abby Baker, Poema, MoZella, & Superchick. And once again, today's song isn't the one I listened to the most. The one I should be posting is a sad one by Abby Baker. So I thought I'd post this one, instead! :)

This week I...

...celebrated Kyla's birthday with my birthday girls! Yummy food, sparkly things, & Pizookies...Need I say more?

...was treated to lunch with my aunt at one of my favorite little spots, then I drove her around the area {including our little drive to school with the buffalos, peacocks, & such. The buffalos now have a horse as well, in case you wondered how their little family was doing!}

...drove over to Kristi's. Have I mentioned that she lives three doors down? Ya, I don't think I've ever done that before unless I was picking her up so we could ride to the church together. But it was raining cats & dogs! Yay for rain!!

...did not ride the mechanical bull at a youth thing last night. My back is thanking me today.

...saw a dead mouse at The Warehouse last night. It's probably what I deserve for hiding in the kitchen so the students didn't see me eat dessert. In my defense, I was craving something sweet but there was no "official" dessert. Laurien showed me some leftover Reese's ice cream cup bars, and I couldn't resist! So I did what anyone else would do when there isn't enough to share: I sat down on the floor with Laurien & ate it in hiding. Wow, that sounds so wrong, doesn't it? I think I received my punishment in the form of a dead mouse, though. {At least I didn't trick poor Abby by telling her that I dropped something under the freezer, causing her to look underneath it & discover said mouse! Yep, another volunteer did that, & it was horribly hilarious!} a text from a friend saying that she got me a ticket to see Needtobreathe in College Station in a couple of months! I'm SO excited!! {They have some new tunes coming out in a few days! Just a little EP, but it's still worth getting excited about!}

...have been working on a few little things in my laundry room. I have one more project before I show y'all the end result, but here's a little sneak peek:

Random little friend Sloan called me to see if I could meet her for coffee the other day. I couldn't because I was on my way to a doctor appointment {just a check up, so there's no reason to be concerned!} But as we continued to talk on the phone, we realized that I was driving just ahead of her on the same road. We proceeded to drive together for the next 15 minutes, until I arrived at my doctor's office. We didn't get to sit down for coffee or even look at each other face-to-face, but we had visuals of each other's vehicles for the entire conversation! ;) Is it weird that I think that's neat?!

Okey doke, that's all I can think of right now! I really need more interesting stuff to blog about, huh?

I'm off to see my baby brother! I hope y'all are having a lovely weekend! ♥

(by Hillsong Kids) Superhero (Live) - Jesus Is My Super Hero (Live)

Superhero by Hillsong Kids on Grooveshark

Wow, I haven't posted all week! I promise everything's OK ~ I've just had a lot going on & haven't had much time! So I decided to [hopefully] humor you with a little

I don't know if I've ever told you how absolutely hilarious my sweet boy was a pre-schooler, but we quote four-year-old Cody on a regular basis. For example, one time he proclaimed, "I am a genius!" He proceeded to point at each person in the room, saying, "I farter than you. I farter than you. I farter than you." Then pointing at himself, he said, "I fart!"

In case you didn't figure it out, he was saying smart! He had a bit of trouble with some phonemes, and several words ended up sounding more like "bathroom humor" than he really intended. A famous mispronunciation that we still use today is the word  fartfellows (instead of marshmallows). It may sound as if I'm making fun of his little speech impediment. In all honesty, I am just a little bit. But it was so adorable! And no offense has been taken (up to this point, at least). He even quotes his four-year-old self as a joke, so I think it's OK.

But mostly, he was simply hilarious ~ speech impediment or not. I would love to post everything that we regularly quote, but it wouldn't be as cute without actually hearing it. And I'd have a hard time typing things phonetically.

The following story is just a small example of the things that went through Cody's four-year-old mind...

My sweet boy had big plans for the future. He was quite set on being a "soup hewo" [superhero] when he grew up & was constantly "training" for this future job. I took these pictures at my dad's house when Cody was training with my baby brother's hand weights...

& Aunt Sheryl made him this mask & cape for Christmas:

One day he told me quite matter-of-factly that (in his role as a superhero) he would "catch the bad people and tell them about God so they can be good." As a woman who loves Jesus, this mama was so proud of her little evangelist!

Then he added, "And if they don't believe or don't want to understand, I will shoot them."

"Flying for the First Time"

(by Elenowen) Flying for the First Time - Elenowen - EP

I have absolutely no idea what song I've listened to the most this week. My iPod is in the van, and I have a migraine so I'm not going to get up and get it. I hope y'all are OK with me posting another Elenowen song! :) This one is probably my favorite, though I'll be honest & say they sound a little off-key at times in this video. The album version is super, and the chorus sounds beautiful. That's probably my favorite part of the song.

I completely forgot to tell y'all that we went to dinner with Jana's family last Friday night! There were two things I wanted to mention about it...First, there was a live band who covered that terribly great "Amie" song right off the bat! It's one of those songs that I only like because I grew up pretending they were singing to me, but I don't really like how it sounds at all. And second, the kids got Push Pops, and my little friend kept trying to turn his upside down & drink through the "straw". It was super cute! By the time I was able to take a picture, he had figured out which end was up. But I still thought I'd show you his cuteness! :)

A few of our friends came over on Monday to spend Labor Day with us! I know that the quality of this picture is awful, but it has all of us in it! :)

Jorge & Elsa brought a delicious Tres Leches cake to celebrate Christopher's 4th cancerversary!
{No, he's not throwing gang signs...those are fours. And yes, we ended up with three desserts. 'Cuz dessert is awesome!}

We began a new Bible study at church on Tuesday. The girls in my class really enjoyed our study on John in the Spring, so we decided to go through another Gospel. This time we're studying Luke, and it's amazing how much good stuff we've covered so far! We went through the first week's study together in class, and I think it went well. I second-guessed {& maybe even third-guessed} my decision to do it that way, but after hearing some feedback I'm glad I did it. And this may sound lame, but I'm totally showing the JESUS film. It's a film adaptation of the Gospel of Luke, and Blue Letter Bible has it broken down by chapter. So we're doing it. Yes, it's from the 70's. But some great things happened in the 70's. Plus I really feel like the Lord orchestrated it, so I'm going with it!

Our Wednesday night services started back up again at church this week as well! We had a few new kids in the youth service, so that was cool. I had to go over to the main building to get some Bible study books for a couple of people, and I'm so glad I did because my friend Kim's husband was there! I basically attacked him in excitement over the fact that they're moving back! I think I may have scared him, but (as I may or may not have mentioned before) I'M SO EXCITED!!

Jana, Felicity, & I met up with my tragically hip friend from Canada on Thursday! Canada is far away, so I'm so glad that we were all able to see her! And Friday was MOPS! It was my turn to give the Mentor Moment, which always makes me nervous. But we played Bunco afterward, so it was all good! On Friday night, Kristi & I hosted a Pampered Chef party for our neighbor who is a new consultant. One of our guests mistakenly walked into our neighbor's house instead of mine. Our neighbor is a cop, so we're glad our friend didn't get shot!

This morning, I got to do something special with my sweet boy. He had a little bit of money in his "give" envelope, and he wanted to give it toward a food pantry that is run by a lady who goes to our church. I totally could've just given the money for him. But I thought it would be good for him to go with me to buy groceries & then deliver them as well. I figured it would mean more to him if he actually saw how much food he could buy with his $8. And I also thought it'd be cool for him to see the food pantry & learn a little about what they do. When we got there, she let him put the food items where they belong and talked to him about the different areas where they could use some assistance. It was a great experience for him, and it's one that was so simple that I can't believe I haven't taken him/them sooner. Renae asked if she could take a picture of him, so I got out my camera, too :)

Aunt Linda came to town this evening, and we went to the Skeeters game with her & Dad. My boy got a couple of doubles and scored a run! And yes, I sang every time they played his song! I think I embarrassed my kids... ;) We saw our old neighbor on the screen when they were looking for the most interesting fan! He's bald & has a gray beard as long as my mister's! We also ran into Stephanie (Elly's best friend from elementary school) & her family. They are all super nice! They're the only reason (besides our neighbors) that I'm even a tad bit sad about moving from that area. They're just good people.

Anyways...for my bloggy friends & IRL friends with blogs: I'm sorry I've been MIA lately! I haven't been home much, & I've been working on a couple of projects during the little bit of time that I have been at home. I plan on catching up soon!

Alrighty, I'm going to try to get some sleep! Please disregard any typos! ♥

"Simple & Free"

(by Abby Baker) Simple & Free - [Un]Defined

I don't have much time, but I haven't posted much these days! So I thought I'd post this song again in case you didn't see that that I updated my other post of this song after Abby posted the video! Yes, I just called her Abby like we're friends or something....

Anyways, I'm about to head out to see my tragically hip friend from Canada! {that link is for every post with the word "tragically". I didn't totally check it out, so there's probably a bunch of randomness, but you'll at least see when I mentioned Christina!!} She's in town for a wedding, so a few of us are getting together in just a little bit! Yay!! :)

I hope y'all have a wonderful day! One of these days I really will tell y'all about Austin... ♥

(by Laura Story) Blessings - Blessings

Blessings by Laura Story on Grooveshark

We're doing a little celebrating today! Yes, it's Labor Day, so most everyone is celebrating! But we're celebrating for another reason as well...Today is Christopher's 4th cancerversary! Though is wouldn't necessarily be considered a happy day, we celebrate the day that we began this journey with the evil dragon. We obviously don't celebrate the fact that he has cancer, but we celebrate the fact that he has survived. Sadly, not everyone can say that they've survived four years with ocular melanoma. We have lost several OM warriors along the way. But I am thankful for the lives they lived, lessons they taught, and the fight they fought alongside us.

Awhile back, I came across this video of the story behind today's song:

I can totally relate to everything she said about this "redefining of the word blessing". The words she spoke that stand out the most to me are at about the 1:45 mark: "There is a blessedness that comes through waiting on the Lord. There is an intimacy in our walk with the Lord that comes through walking through that valley. There's a reliance on His Word that we only know when everything else in life fades away."

So good! And I can totally say along with her that I truly feel like I am blessed.

"Blood & Bones"

(by Elenowen) Blood and Bones - Elenowen - EP

It has been a long time since I posted an Elenowen song. I really like their sound, but I don't have much of their stuff. I've been listening to a bunch of random songs this week, but I keep going back to this one. I didn't know until I found this video that they co-wrote it with Trent Dabbs. He just so happens to be in a little band with Amy Stroup, who I love! Elenowen also recorded a song while doing a podcst with The Vespers, of whom I'm also a fan! Anyways, I didn't realize they were so connected with other musicians that I like. How fun is that?!

My baby girl's first day of 8th grade was the worst day ever. Like, so bad that we were both crying! :( I won't go into all of the details, but the main problem had to do with her electives. She was asked to be in two special classes: advanced art and journalism. I received a phone call from the counselor verifying her choice of electives a few weeks ago & wasn't given any indication that there would be a problem, but they ended up scheduling those two classes during the same period. She had to choose between two subjects that she is very passionate about, and it was a difficult decision. There were several other issues, but that one was the worst. The only good part of her day was Keith, my friend & her math teacher. Who would've ever thought that math would be the best part of her day?! {Do y'all remember her terrible experience in 6th grade??} Her week has gotten better as she has adjusted to the changes and started to look at the positives (like getting a high school credit out of the way so that she'll have more room for journalism then). Cody's week was much better than Elly's, though he thought middle school would be more fun than it has turned out to be! ;)

As for the rest of the week, I...

...realized that I completely forgot my 4th blogiversary a couple of weeks ago :(

...did some preparation for the new Bible study that starts on Tuesday!

...went to the first meeting of the year for MOPS, & I have a super great table! :)

...was planning on writing a blog post about the Back to School Throwback Brouhaha, but it was similar enough to other summer youth events that I figured y'all would rather just see the picture of me with Nicole & Julie in some clothes from our high school years:

...did a little painting in my laundry room! {I plan to show y'all pictures once I add a few finishing touches}

...totally gashed my head while doing said painting earlier today :/ It still hurts tonight, so I had Elizabeth look at it. She said that my injury is about an inch long. Am I weird that I'm glad it left a mark? 'Cuz it hurt bad. I hate when I hurt myself badly, but it doesn't even bruise or anything. I guess I sorta feel like my pain is justified when I have something to show for it. Wow, that makes me sound a little bit crazy, huh? Anyways, it could've been worse. I've been on top of the fridge numerous times this week & haven't fallen off. I'd call it a success. {ftr, I don't get on top of the fridge most weeks. I was painting up above it, in case you wondered why I was up there!}

It seems like there were other things that I wanted to tell y'all, but I can't remember them right now! I have two new items that I want to show y'all, but I thought it might be better to wait until I post about my trip to Austin ('cuz I bought the items there). So maybe I'll get around to that soon!

I hope y'all have a super great Labor Day Weekend!! ♥
