"Hold Us Together"

(by Matt Maher) Hold Us Together - Alive Again

Once again I've failed to do a weekend post, but I've been dwelling on Colossians 1:17...

"He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together."

And that verse always makes me think of Louie Giglio's talk about laminin, the cell-adhesion molecule. And though today's song itself doesn't totally go with the subject matter, the title does. So we're going with it! :) If you haven't seen the video, I've posted it below.

The entire How Great is our God video is very good and worth the time. I couldn't find the official video, but that's the one with the most views.

(by Thomas Rhett)

Once again I have discovered a post that I started but didn't finish! It's a little late, but I think it's still worth posting...

Our last Bowl Games of the summer was 'Merica-themed yuck wars!

For the first time in Bowl Games history, Caleb and I were on opposing teams:

{Apparently he didn't register on time, and my team was full by the time he did...the Red Team that has only won twice in Bowl Games history...they couldn't put him on that team one last time?!...lame...}

And in case you're wondering what my accessories are about...the Red Team captains were Chuck Norris and Sacagawea. I'm sure you could totally tell (haha)!

We started out with a little team captain eating competition...

...which I won, of course (not)! Have I mentioned that I chew 30-40 times for each bite that I take? Eating competitions just aren't my thang!

We played a goo-filled balloon version of volleyball...

...the human version of Hungry Hungry Hippos (on tarps covered with slime and baby oil)...

...slippery, slimy tug-of-war...

...and tubed down a giant Slip'N Slide!

Everyone had a blast, as you can tell! I didn't participate in most of the events because my back has been bothering me, but usually I'm all in (except for tug-of-war because of that one time when I got slammed so hard into the person behind me that I felt like I had been in a small car chiropractor still has to adjust me in a different way than he did before the incident)! How about you? When given the opportunity to play like this, are you more of an observer or participant?

"All the Poor and Powerless"

(by All Sons & Daughters)

There's no particular reason for today's song other than the fact that I love All Sons & Daughters and haven't posted this one yet! :)

And now for another post where I catch you up on the past few weeks...

We co-hosted National Night Out with Kristi's family for the 6th year in a row! We had around 35 of our neighbors come over for a little ice cream social! ü

Cody had a meet clear on the other side of Houston a couple of weeks ago. Though it was a struggle to get up earlier than usual, I got to see this gorgeous sunrise!

Cody finished 5th on of his team of 10 and around 30th of 150+ overall!

We watched Evie Kate one night, and the following picture shows how she feels about Dulce! ;)

{not one bit interested in rubbing her belly!}

Speaking of Dulce, she must think she's a parrot because she perches on our shoulders a lot!

We had another youth event last weekend! One girl brought a friend who is three days older than Elly, and her brother is one day younger than Cody! Weird, huh? That's totally unrelated to the following pictures, but I just had to share...

Cody's District meet took place on Thursday! His team finished 3rd and is headed to Regionals!!

This was the only meet that Cody ran with Alex & Isaac's school this year. Matt (our new Youth Associate) and Aaron came out to support our boys!

Cody placed 23rd and was the first finishing freshman on varsity. {Alex & Ike's team had some faster freshmen on JV, but their team is crazy awesome overall!}

In addition to Elizabeth's birthday festivities, we had a pretty full weekend...

Our Fall Fest was on Saturday...

Lindsay & I celebrated Laurien's birthday by taking her out to dinner and spending some time at CityCentre...

Our missionary partners in Romania were at church on Sunday...

And my adorable little neighbor was baptized!

I hope y'all are having a super great week! ♥

"Live Like You're Loved"

(by Hawk Nelson)

My baby girl is 17 years old today!!

A few of her school friends came home with her on Friday and hung out for awhile. One of the girls had plans to see Tenth Avenue North in concert, so she had to leave before we left for dinner.

A couple of other girls met up with us at MOD Pizza...

Then most of them came back to the house for a sleepover! Elly requested Pampered Chef's Chocolate Molten Lave Cake. It isn't pretty, but it's delicious and super easy to make!

Elly chose Smashburger for lunch after church today!

We heard that they have a chocolate peanut butter milkshake, which Elly & I split while the boys split an Oreo malt.

She opened her presents after we got home...

And she seems to be happy with her birthday weekend!

I was going to post The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There", but the only line that really applies to today is the first one. So I chose today's song because my prayer is that Elizabeth would live like she's loved...

Live like you're loved, walk like you're free
Stand like you know who He made you to be
Live like you're loved, like you believe
His love is all that you ever need
