"Just Getting Started"

(by Hawk Nelson)

I've had a super busy but super great week! It started with church and small group with some of my favorite girls on Sunday. Then on Monday, my favorite boy in all the world gave me flowers when I picked him up from track practice!

I know they're just weeds, but I love the fact that he's 14 and picked flowers for me! ♥ He didn't want me to embarrass him on social media, though, so I'm only posting the picture here. ü

On Tuesday night, I got to be a bodyguard for the first time. I'm sure it's surprising to you that it has taken so long for me to have that opportunity, because you'd think I'd be everyone's first pick, but...Anyways, Laurien was meeting up with a Craigslist seller, so I tagged along for protection. Plus she bought me coffee while we waited. It was totally worth the risk! ;)

My friend Kim got Pentatonix tickets for her birthday, and she took Sally & me to the concert on Wednesday night! Since this blog is supposedly all about music, I figure I should write a separate post about that, though, so I'll tell you more about it later! :)

Thursday night was Cody's district track meet!

It was super duper windy, so Cody wasn't able to break a 5-minute mile. In fact, nobody we know PR'd at this meet, but I'll tell you how it all turned out later. First, the random stuff...Amy wasn't feeling well, so she wasn't able to attend the meet. Ammi & I sent her this selfie to let her know that we missed her:

Then another Amy came along, so we asked her to take a selfie with us! Amy wasn't very amused at the thought of being replaced! ;)

Aaron & Kloe' came for the first part of the meet! Five of our youth were there, but we failed to get a picture of all of them together. Cody managed to get this one of the boys, though:

Overall, it was a really great night! Cody came in 2nd in the 2400, he won the mile, and his team ended up winning the meet!! He and two of his teammates (pictured below) came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the mile!

Yay for winning district!! :)

Friday was a super great day...I got to spend time with two really great ladies! First, I went to Nichole's for coffee, then we went to Costco together. Her kids were adorable! They wanted her to go somewhere so I could stay there and babysit! :) After spending the morning with Nichole, I got to spend the afternoon with Elaine! I picked her up so we could do some shopping for a baby shower, then we visited for awhile at her house afterward. Elaine is someone I'd love to spend more time with. When she became a Mentor Mom for MOPS, all of the other Mentor Moms wanted to sit at her table! ü She's just great! After a nice day with sweet ladies, I also got to spend the evening with our pastors & elders and their wives at a dinner for a man who is a candidate for the Spiritual Formation Pastor at our church. I'm skipping ahead for a second, but my family also ate lunch with him, his wife, and another elder today. I'll keep y'all posted on how things develop...

And finally, Saturday was yet another super great day! I celebrated the expected arrival of two new babies! :) First, I attended a shower for Jacey, a girl who used to be in the youth group. Then, I helped host a shower for Kennan, whose husband is our Media Minister. She was also one of my Growth Group girls! How cute are these circus decorations?!

As for today's song...I should've mentioned this last week, but I completely forgot...Hawk Nelson has a new album, and you should totally check it out! If I had more free time, I'd be better at keeping y'all informed about music that I think you need to hear. The way things are going these days, I think I need y'all to tell me about music! If you know of any new artists that you think I'd like, please let me know!

I hope y'all have a wonderful week! ♥

"Tightrope"

(by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors)

I hope y'all have had a great week and weekend! Mine has been good!! If y'all saw the picture that I posted last night, you already know why! ü I'll get to that later, but as for the rest of my week...

We had a women's event where we prepared items that will be taken on mission trips this summer. There were a few different things going on that night...dress kits were prepared for Guaymi women to make in Costa Rica, pillow case dresses were made for girls in an impoverished area of Romania, and goodie bags were assembled for ladies in the commercial s*x industry here in Texas (more on this last thing as our involvement develops further, but for now you should check out the beautiful things that Brett & Emily Mills are doing through Jesus Said Love). Anyways, aside from eating finger foods and talking to friends (both new and old), I pinned bias tape around sleeves for pillow case dresses. They are SO cute, and I know that some little Romanian girls are going to love them! {I didn't take any pictures, but I found this tutorial that'll show you something similar to what we're making!}

As y'all know, Tuesday was St. Patrick's Day. Ever since emerald was the Pantone color of the year, I have had an emerald blouse on my list of things to buy when I have a little extra money or gift card or something. So far, I've had no luck finding what I'm looking for. Elly was concerned about me getting pinched, so she lent me her Monster tab necklace! Is she the best, or what?! :)

If you saw the post where I said, "I'm gonna grab my sari just in case," you may have wondered what situation might possibly warrant it...I got to share about India with the girls in our children's ministry at church on Wednesday night! They have just learned about Amy Carmichael and all of her mission work in India, so I got to tell them a bit about our trip and how they can be involved with what we're doing in India!

{And in case you wondered, it was a good thing that I brought it...even though I was in a hurry and accidentally put it on inside out!}

Cody did well in his track meet on Thursday night! He finished 2nd in the 2400 with a time of 8:10, and he finished 1st in the mile with a time of 5:09. If he runs his first lap around five seconds slower, he should have it in him to run the other three laps five seconds faster, and he'd totally meet his goal. I'll keep y'all posted!

I drove to my beautiful cousin Kendra's on Friday! It ended up being a bit of a "Girls' Weekend" because Aunt Karla & Catherine (Kirby's wife) were there, too! :) Jason was also there, but he intentionally ate dinner in the living room (while watching some March Madness) while we ate dinner in the kitchen on Friday night, and he took care of Judah while we went to a couple of antique shops on Saturday. Speaking of Judah...

How adorable is he?! He is getting SO big!

He was crawling everywhere, playing peek-a-boo with his Nana, and pulling himself up on things. He'll be walking before we know it! He doesn't have any teeth yet, but he was doing a little teething on Kendra's chin! :D

My drive home was mostly in the rain, so that wasn't so fun. My neck is a little sore today, so apparently I was tensed up more than I realized! Oh well...it's totally worth it to spend some time with Kendra and the family! ♥

District is on Thursday, and I have two baby showers on Saturday (one I'm attending, and one I'm helping to host), so I've got another busy week ahead. I will try to catch up on everyone's posts very soon! Before I forget, thank you to those who participated in the little name meme game! I enjoyed reading the random results that y'all got!

I hope y'all have a super great week! ♥

"Diamonds"

(by JOHNNYSWIM)

There's a live version of today's song that I had planned on saving for an India post. Then they released an official video the other day!! And because the song is so good, I had to post it today! I may just post it twice...

It has been quite an eventful week around here! My kids went on Venture (the student ministry Spring Break trip) for a few days. I didn't go this year because of work and the fact that I took off quite a few days for India, but I'm sure that the kids are glad to do some youth events without their Mom! ;) They spent a few days serving as well as having fun!

While they were gone, Chris and I watched way too much Netflix. And the only thing I cooked was pancakes from a package that Dad & P-Dub brought us from Hawaii. I met up with Kristin one night, and we went to a coffee shop that I've been wanting to check out for awhile now!

My sweet boy accompanied me to Kroger one day after they got back. I may or may not have bribed him with Starbucks...

Laurien's brother was visiting from out of state, and she brought him over for pizza & movie night on Friday! ü

Our family hasn't celebrated Pi Day before, but we decided to celebrate this year since this was a monumental one. I had made a pie on Friday (Pi Day Eve), but it was a bit of a fail. It tasted good, but the top part didn't set...

It was OK, though, because we had plans for actual Pi Day! We had leftover pizza pie for lunch (yes, we really know how to live it up!)...

...then went to the place where Wade got me that delicious chocolate cream pie last week!

Then, after Cody's last basketball game...

...Kim & James invited us over for dinner and more pie! :) And puppy snuggles...

Speaking of puppy, our baby puppy turned eight years old today!

Jana also had a birthday today!

When Brian heard that I had signed up to bring dessert for our home group tonight, he texted me to see if I'd make something for her birthday. Little did he know that I had signed up for that very reason! Great minds think alike! :) I took a risk and made something that I've never made before (a banana chocolate chip cake with peanut butter frosting), and I think it turned out tasty!

Happy birthday, friend! You're catching up to me... ;)

I hope y'all have a super great week!! ♥

"le Internet Medley"

(by The GAG Quartet)

Wanna play a little meme game with me?

My friend posted the following picture on Facebook the other day...

...and I thought it was fun!

The first one I found was this:

What about YOUR name? I don't think there's a way to post a picture in a Blogger comment, but please tell me what it says and/or paste a link to the picture!

Thanks in advance for playing along!! ü

"Human"

(by Christina Perri)

My week was pretty much the same as usual, so I don't have a whole lot to share...

Cody's track meet was cancelled because of the weather. I'm glad we didn't have to sit in the freezing cold for hours, but I'm bummed that Cody didn't get a chance to try for his 4:XX mile. He should have two more opportunities before season is over, though...

Speaking of Cody, he has been working on a big project this semester and presented it on Monday. I took a picture of him practicing it with me that morning and thought I'd share it with y'all since I don't have much else to share this week! :)

Speaking of projects, Elly had to take some photos for a project at school. She took my phone into her room and ended up with some great lighting! Though she only took a couple of goofy pics like this one, I thought I'd share anyways...

I found a bird nest in my front yard, and I was really intrigued by all of the nesting material that was used! In case you can't tell, there's duct tape, mesh, rope, batting, plastic (maybe a trash bag?), tinsel, and a bunch of twigs (of course)! So cool!

We had dinner with our friends Alex & Lauren on Friday night! Torchy's was super busy, so we had to eat outside on the patio. It was only moderately cold at first, but by the time we left, it was so cold that super warm-natured Cody (who was wearing a t-shirt and shorts) had to borrow one of Alex's police jackets!

I had a really great Saturday!! In addition to Laurien joining us for Cody's basketball game and a belated pizza & movie night, I also got to see my step-sister and niece. Kaylee had a dance competition at a school nearby, so I met up with them for a few hours. Tiff has posted video of Kaylee dancing before, but it was really neat to see her in person!

I chose today's song because it's the one that Kaylee used in her performance. It's not really my story to share, but I'll just say that she chose the song because of some challenges she has overcome. Seeing her dance so gracefully is truly a beautiful thing!

I suppose that's all...I hope y'all have a wonderful week! ♥

"Dying Now"

(by Noah Gundersen)

Today's song has nothing to do with my life. I just thought I'd clarify before we get going...

I'm sorry I didn't post over the weekend. I had planned on posting last night but ended up helping Elly put Oliver's license plates on, and it took longer than I had anticipated. It involved drilling holes and stuff, and we felt powerful when we were finished! ;)

I had a pretty good week! In addition to the things I have pictured below...

Laurien came over for dinner earlier in the week. She also came over for pizza & movie night (as she does a couple of times a month). The boys went to basketball practice, so we girls watched Princess Diaries! ü We plan on watching the second one next time!

Cody spent the night at Ike's on Saturday, and Chris took Elly & her friend Seth to Winter Jam, so I had a free evening. Because I really know how to live it up, I did laundry and watched a couple of chick flicks!

My mom had a birthday last week, so we went to visit her yesterday afternoon. I guess I haven't mentioned that she has been on hospice for about a month, though it is not end-of-life hospice. It is more "comfort" hospice that is similar to palliative care (because she isn't terminal), but it is taking place at home by a hospice nurse. She is on new pain medicine, and they have her looking and feeling better than she has in quite awhile! They will also provide a five-day caregiver break for my step-dad, where they will care for her in a nursing home while he has the opportunity to get away for a few days. This is something he needs greatly, as he has been her sole caregiver for over 20 years now and hasn't had much of a break since her health has declined over the past few years.

Anyways, on to the pictures...

Wade brought me pie after lunch one day, but I didn't have a chance to eat it before staff meeting. I may or may not have been a bit distracted while I awaited going back to my desk to eat it! :)

It was SO good, y'all! I'm hoping to go there with the family on Pi Day! :)

My kitchen facet handle broke off the other day (because I'm so strong)...

But Moen's customer service is super, and we should be up and going again soon!

We experienced another super cold track meet on Thursday night! The coaches mixed things up a little as they're trying to figure out how to score the most points at District. Cody didn't get to run the mile this week (though he won it last week...I'm confused). He ran the 2400 and came in third to two of his teammates. His time was super (8:25), but he had never run it and didn't know how to pace for it. He's sorta glad he came in third, because he doesn't want to run it again! He is really set on his goal for the mile. He ran the 800 again, but he came in third this time (probably because he had run a mile and a half only 40 minutes prior)! He also ran the 4x4, and his team won! He ran his leg in 60 seconds. The 8th grade boys ended up winning the meet, which doesn't happen very often because those boys from Alex & Ike's school are really good!

Cody ran the very first event, the very last event, and another race in the middle somewhere, so we stayed for the whole thing. This was me by the end, wrapped up in a few blankets and unable to feel my nose or my toes...

At every meet so far, there has been a man who was not too proud to cover up in a girly blanket. This time it was Christopher!

ü

I met up with my "little sis" from my high school days on Friday! It's always good to catch up with her!

This huge cat followed Elly home from the mailbox, and I had to take a picture. He is SO soft and fluffy!

I finally got to meet Kim's puppy! She got him while we were in India, and Kristin didn't know about him until she got home! How adorable is he?! Definitely one happy way to not think about the sadness of leaving India! ü

Speaking of India, I got a free photo book from World Market and Shutterfly! I chose last year's India trip for this special album, and I received it this week! Once I get everyone's pictures from this year's trip, I'll start on another album like this (& also blog about it)!

Alrighty, I better get busy or I'll be late for work! I hope y'all have a super great week!! ♥
