"Fun, Fun, Fun"

(by The Beach Boys) Fun, Fun, Fun - Sounds of Summer - The Very Best of The Beach Boys

Check out my new ride!!

Just kidding! Christopher's car was in the shop, and if you know today's song, then you probably figured out that I have my dad's car. It's a GTO (not a T-bird), and I told my dad that I was going to work (not the library). But y'all know I'm blasting the radio! :)

I really don't know another song that remotely applies, and I wanted y'all to see how nervous cool I am driving this car today! She's waaaaay more exciting than Silvie! Dad's girlfriend told me to do my daddy proud & NOT drive it like my brother! I told her not to worry, that I have much more of a lead foot than Kerry. He probably wouldn't even get her up to speed limit! ;) Sadly, I haven't had the opportunity to go more than 60 mph {though she apparently can go 200!!} I'm about to go to dinner with my birthday girls, though, so maybe I'll have a chance to see a little more of what she can do tonight! :)

"Wanted Man"

(by NEEDTOBREATHE) Wanted Man - The Reckoning

Once again, I've been a failure at blogging, and I didn't even get my usual Saturday post done. I hope to get back on track soon, but I'm not sure how/when that will happen. I am still listening to music, though, and my favorite band has been posting live videos from ACL lately. Since I've never posted this song, I thought I'd share it with you today. I didn't really listen to it the most this week, though. {Why do I always feel the need to confess that to y'all?!}

My sweet boy was at camp all week, so I got to enjoy some time with my baby girl! She ended up getting to hang out with friends on the days that I worked...one time was planned, and the other was by accident. The accidental one was when she had come in to work with me in order to go to VBS training. Afterward, her friend's mom took her home, where she realized that she had forgotten her key. It all worked out great, though, because she was able to spend the day with her friend & had much more fun than she would've if she had been home alone! The following picture what taken at Fuzzy's on a day that we ran some errands {& were conveniently still out at lunchtime!} :)

Chris & Elly both had stuff going on one evening, so I got to have a somewhat impromptu coffee date with my friend Laurien! Speaking of coffee...With Cody being gone & Chris having something each evening, I didn't hardly cook at all. So my kitchen stayed fairly clean...

...and most of the items that I had to wash were coffee mugs!

On another coffee note...there's a new coffee roaster in town! Well...not in my town, but in a nearby town. Righteous Bros Coffee Roasters is owned by my step-brother's brother-in-law. {I tried to make that sound the least complicated as possible!} Their eCommerce store opened this week, so I ordered some caffeinated yumminess & received it super quick! Yay for new coffee!!

And one more coffee note (yes, you should probably be concerned about my addiction at this point)...Christopher & I celebrated our 17th anniversary yesterday! Since Sarah had just come into town (and our usual Benihana coupon is only good Monday through Thursday), we decided to just go out for a little coffee date! We went to a new(ish) place in a historic building by the courthouse. The owner gave us a tour of several parts of the building and filled us in on some history. It was pretty neat!

The most exciting part of my week was picking up my favorite British teenager at the airport!! She has come from across the pond to stay with us for a couple of weeks, and we're so glad to have her here! I'll try to remember to take pictures of some of the fun stuff we do during her visit (on a real camera), but for now here's one that I took on my phone:

I would like to wrap this post up with an announcement: the birthday dessert eating has begun!!

I have a feeling that the week ahead is going to be super!! :) I hope y'all have a wonderful week! ♥

"Falling Down"

(by Lecrae, feat. Swoope & Trip Lee) Falling Down (feat. Swoope & Trip Lee) - Gravity (Deluxe Version)

Falling Down (feat. Swoope & Trip Lee) by Lecrae on Grooveshark

As usual, I'm waiting on pictures in order to tell y'all about a couple of things. But since it has been awhile since I've posted anything in any of my series, I thought I'd combine a couple of them today!!

I don't recall what originally reminded me of this story, but Elly thought it was funny enough to record me telling part of it. Then I promptly forgot that I was going to tell y'all the story until I came across the video on my phone the other day! {And all of that rambling was to explain the fact that I'm wearing a scarf & long sleeves in the video because it was recorded several months ago. I'll quit over-explaining now & get to the story...}

I was at church camp the summer after my freshman year in high school. For some reason, I was out with a group of random kids in the woods after dark one night. I have no idea why we were allowed to be outside in the dark unchaperoned, but it was a different day and time, maybe?! Anyways, we were playing a game that involved jogging through the woods. There was a little thud and grunt followed by another little thud and louder grunt behind us.

Nobody really thought anything about it. I mean, we were running through the woods, so of course there would be noises. Plus we were teenagers, so we didn't really think to be concerned for anyone other than ourselves (for the most part, anyways). We didn't realize that one of the guys wasn't with us until he caught up to us a few minutes later and explained that he had tripped over something, got up, & started running again only to trip over something else. We gave him a hard time, of course! Though y'all know that I'm such a clutz that I had absolutely no business giving him a hard time! ;)

The next day, we did a little investigating in the woods and discovered...

Yes, I'm a dweeb.

"Anywhere But Here"

(by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors)

So I'm basically a failure at blogging this year. I really don't know why, but I've been seriously slacking. I didn't even tell y'all about scans, which is craziness! I kept thinking about it, but all of my blog readers (that I'm aware of) are also facebook &/or IRL friends. So I assume that y'all know that SCANS WERE CLEAR!!! While I'm super glad about that, I am legitimately unhappy with the medical oncologist. He doesn't want to see Chris for a year now, which is just a small part of the reason I'm unhappy with him. Each person's case is different, and knowledgeable oncologists will base their follow-up surveillance upon the patient's risk factors & such. The problem is the fact that I am now absolutely sure that I know more about ocular melanoma than Christopher's oncologist. I doubted his competency in the past, but now it has been confirmed. I won't go into all of the details, but none of his reasoning for lengthening the time between scans were based on facts about Chris &/or ocular melanoma. They were based on his knowledge of metastasis in other types of cancer. That'd be super if Chris had some other type of cancer, but he has ocular melanoma. It metastasizes in a completely different way than most cancers. He basically told Chris to pay attention to his body & to call if he experienced any unusual pain. For the record, by the time he would experience any sort of pain associated with mets he would be roughly two months away from death. This is not me being dramatic; it is simply the facts. Up until the very end, most OM patients with mets have normal blood work, feel fine, look fine, do not experience much pain, have all of their hair, and appear to be perfectly healthy. Anyways, I've gone into a few more details than I had originally planned. To wrap it all up...I'm sure that I'd be nervous about lengthening the time between scans even if a knowledgeable doctor recommended it, but I could possibly accept it from a doctor who knows more about OM than I do.

Moving right along...

My sweet boy got his glasses this week, and I think he looks so handsome!

He went to a friend's house for a couple of days this week, so baby girl and I had a girls' day on Wednesday! We had a lazy morning, then we got haircuts and did a little bit of shopping for our first Bowl Games of the summer that night! I'll tell y'all more about it later {for real! I've already started the post...} but for now, here's a picture of me with my baby girl:

{Yes, there's a reason for the outfit, but I'll just let you wonder for now...}

Speaking of my baby girl, she started drivers ed this week. How crazy is that?! She can get her permit in October, so we decided that she should do the classroom portion this summer while she has the time (& doesn't have school/homework). I got my little Parent Taught Driver Education packet in the mail the other day, so we signed her up for her online class. Drivers ed has come a loooong way from when I took it. She can do the work from the comfort of one of my super cute chairs!

A group of some of my favorite people in the world are on a mission trip in Costa Rica, where my friend Heather is a missionary. The group from my church will be doing VBS and a water project that will bring water to each home in a village of Guyami indians. At least half of the group consists of one or more of the following: my favorite students, my close friends, & my close friend's children. I love these people, and I know the preparation they have put into this trip. Please pray for them as they share the love of Christ with the Guyami. {Thank you!}

As for the song, it's one of my favorites of theirs. If you know me at all, you probably know what part is my favorite...the "oh oh oh" part at the end. I have no idea why I like those parts so much, but I do!

Alrighty, I'm going to the early service in the morning, so I've got to get to bed! I hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend! ♥

"Favorite Time of Light"

(by Over the Rhine) Favorite Time of Light (Acoustic Nowhere Farm Version) [Bonus Track] - The Long Surrender (Bonus Track Version)

Hi, friends! I've had a busy weekend, and I just now have a chance for my usual Saturday post! Since it's already all wonky, we'll just go backwards...

Today is my mister's birthday! We took him out for lunch after church, and the kids made him cards. Then our Community Group came over tonight. It wasn't really a full-blown birthday party, but we sang along as Clyde played the birthday song on the piano before we ate cake! :)

We had dinner with the rest of the elders, their wives, and a few other people last night. We gathered at the home of a man who was recently ordained at our church. He was forced to leave his home country because of his beliefs, and he is passionate about spreading the gospel and teaching other Christians how to do the same. He is a beautiful person, and I am better for having spent a few hours in his company. And his wife is an amazing cook! :)

My kiddos were on a road trip with the students for most of the week, and I worked the majority of the time that they were gone. I got to do something fun each evening...Chris had a free birthday bowl at Genghis Grill, so we went out for dinner one night. We went to Aaron & Nichole's for homemade pizza another night! The women from church had a Ladies Night Out, and I shared a dessert with Jana this time {I'm sorry, Marcie! After seeing the look on your face, I won't do it again unless we're sharing with you, too! ΓΌ} I also had a little meeting that ended up essentially being another Ladies Night Out! We had gotten together to plan a shower for Aaron's bride-to-be (Youth Pastor Aaron, not baby brother Aaron), and several of us ended up staying at Amy's until nearly midnight! :)

As for today's song, I've been listening to it quite a bit since Melissa posted it a couple of weeks ago! Melissa is the wife of my long-time friend Jack. He told me about Over the Rhine a long time ago, and I have listened to their music through the years. Jack actually filmed today's video at a concert at the band's farm. How cool is that?!

Alrighty, I better get to bed! Most of y'all are aware that scans didn't happen on Tuesday, but they were rescheduled for tomorrow. I'll keep y'all posted on how things turn out. ♥

"Lollipop"

(by The Chordettes) Lollipop - Rock-a-Hits

Lollipop by The Chordettes on Grooveshark

There have been several reasons why we've had to reschedule scans throughout the years, but a sucker has never been one of them.

Until now...

We received word at around 5:15 yesterday evening that Christopher's scans had been approved by our new insurance company. They scheduled a full-body PET scan for some reason, which is overkill. But it's a scan nevertheless, so we went with it. We arrived at the Med Center this morning with enough time to check in at three different places on three different floors in two different buildings. When Chris came out from getting his blood work with a sucker in his hand, I didn't really think anything about it.

Maybe 30 minutes after they called him back for his scans, he came back out saying that he was disqualified because of the sucker. Yep. Who knew?! The lady in the lab was aware that he had been fasting and had asked about the tests he was having today, so I have no idea why she gave him a sucker. And we had no idea that it was a problem.

We could've waited around for 4 hours and hoped that someone cancelled their scan, but that didn't seem very likely. Chris called his doctor's office to see if he could still have a CT after having a sucker. While I didn't hear the answer to that, they said that we'd have to deal with insurance again. And I don't guess they would've been able to take care of it today. We're still going to see about a CT instead of a PET (because there's less radiation exposure), but we don't know anything yet.

Ugh.

I've probably mentioned this before, but by this point I am so ready to get scans over with. Even if it's bad news, I'm just ready to know something and proceed with whatever is next. I'm sure that if it really was bad news, I'd rather be back in this place of not knowing. But for now, I just want to be done with them.

On the bright side, Chris was able to go in to work today, and I ended up with a free afternoon. {& because I'm so wild and adventurous, I decided to go home and do some laundry!} As I was passing by Kristi's on my return home, she was outside with her kids. She looked down questioningly at her watch and waved me over to ask if Chris was already done. My reply went a little something like this:

Nope. Scans have to be rescheduled. And it really sucks.

(pun intended)

"Two Princes"

(by Spin Doctors) Two Princes - Pocket Full of Kryptonite

I hope y'all have had a great week! Mine has been super! I've had a few relaxing days, but I've also done fun stuff like...

...played games with our Community Group!

...hung out with some super great students at Ladies/Fellas Night! We all met up at The Warehouse and separated once everybody arrived. The boys played some games outside then went to one of the volunteers' houses for food and swimming. The girls stayed inside and ate yummy goodness and played games (like Just Dance and Apples to Apples). We also had a Jamberry Nails consultant who helped us do our nails. They're pretty, but I'm pretty rough on my nails & have already had to peel them off.

...took my sweet boy to the eye doctor:

{I'll post pics with my real camera when he gets his glasses. He's such a handsome boy...just wait!}

...ate froyo & saw Despicable Me 2 with the boys (Cody & Alejandro) and my friend Kim & her kids {did I tell you that she moved back?!}

...celebrated the 4th of July with my family, my baby brother, Dad, and Christina. And of course, there was yummy food involved:

...went to see fireworks! And because a certain pirate I know sorta stands out in a crowd, Lance & Mel spotted us while driving by & stopped to see us. They ended up watching fireworks with us, and the girls enjoyed chasing Cody around & throwing Pop-its at his feet!

...had coffee with my friend Magaly

...did a little bit of shopping with my Mister & some birthday coupons {& if I remember, I'll take some pictures of what I got!}

...still haven't heard anything about scans. They're still scheduled for Tuesday, but I guess we'll wait and see.

I really don't know why today's song was listened to the most this week, but we're just gonna go with it! This song makes me think of the summer after I graduated high school. It was constantly on the radio, and I loved it! I didn't know much of the Spin Doctors stuff, but I liked a couple of their songs. Were you a fan?

Alrighty, I better go! I hope your weekend is super! ♥

"The Words I Would Say"

(by Sidewalk Prophets) The Words I Would Say - These Simple Truths

Some of the girls in my Hello Mornings group have been going through some trials, and I shared a bunch of scripture with them yesterday. I got to thinking that y'all may be encouraged by the Word as well. These are just a few of the many verses that have helped me trust God by reminding me of His provision and His character, that He is with me, that I shouldn't fear, and that He wants to do a beautiful work inside of me in the midst of various trials. I'm sure I have shared some of these before, and there are many, many more wonderful verses that go along with these. But for now, here you go...

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8)

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty; yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength..." (Habakkuk 3:17-19a)

The Lord will guide you always, He will satisfy your needs in a sun scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. (Isaiah 58:11)

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, whose thoughts are fixed on You! (Isaiah 26:3)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!” The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for Him. (Lamentations 3:21-25)

As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. (Micah 7:7)

The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him. (Nahum 1:7)

I am overcome with joy because of Your unfailing love, for You have seen my troubles, and You care about the anguish of my soul. (Psalm 31:7)

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding & eternal weight of glory. (2 Corinthians 4:17)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4)

I hope that at least one of these was encouraging to you today! If you have some verses to share, I'd love to read them! ♥
