"Big Jet Plane"

(by Angus & Julia Stone) Big Jet Plane - Down the Way (Bonus Track Version)

I'm sorry that I haven't been around this week. There just hasn't been anything to blog about. I probably won't have a chance to do my usual post tomorrow, so I thought I'd post a video that really doesn't have anything to do with my life other than the fact that I'm at the airport right now! And though my life isn't quite as dull as the girl's in the video, I really don't travel much. I haven't flown in nearly 9 years, and I haven't flown alone in nearly 20! And from what I can remember, this is only my 8th trip where flying was involved. Not that you care, but my previous trips have been to Lubbock, Rochester, San Diego, Houston (when I lived in Dallas), Orlando, and Los Angeles (twice). I should get out more, huh?

Anyways, I'm at the airport because I'm about to fly to Lubbock for Kirby's run tomorrow! And if I knew how to post links using this app on my phone, I would've. But most of y'all know about it/him anyways. And if you don't, you can search for his name in the search bar under my header & tabs. :)

It's almost time to board my plane, so I better get ready...I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend! ♥

"Psalm 46"

(by Jenny & Tyler) Psalm 46 - Faint Not

"The LORD is my refuge and strength
Therefore I will not be afraid
Though the mountains give way
And fall into the sea
He will come and rescue me

The LORD comes to me at break of day
He reaches down to guide me in His ways
Though the oceans roar
In this dark and stormy sea
He will come and rescue me

Hallelujah, He is with me
Hallelujah, we cannot be moved
Hallelujah, He is with me
Hallelujah, I rest secure

Be still and know that He is God
He will be exalted over all
Come and behold His strength and majesty
Yet He will come and rescue me

Hallelujah, He is with me
Hallelujah, we cannot be moved
Hallelujah, He is with me
Hallelujah, I rest secure"

I can't think of much blogworthy stuff to share about my week, and I have no idea what song I listened to the most. But I've been listening to songs like this as I've gone about my days & basically stayed in a constant state of prayer for Bailey's friends and family. Thank you so much for joining me in prayer over the past few days. Any continued prayers would be appreciated.

"Beauty Will Rise"

(by Steven Curtis Chapman)

I had an entirely different post planned for today, but my heart is too heavy to post something lighthearted right now. Please join me in praying for my friends Gary & Desiree. Their beautiful daughter passed away in a car accident yesterday. Bailey was a Senior in high school and a part of my small group on Sunday mornings. Her brother Cody is a Freshman at the school where my baby girl will be in the fall. Her grandma Yia Yia is the most adorable little lady I've ever known. They all know and hope in God, our Comforter and Peace, and I know He will carry them through this.

Please also pray for her fellow students in our youth group and at school. Some of us gathered at The Warehouse last night to comfort, share memories, and pray. Those kids grieve with the hope of seeing Bailey again. But as I dropped my babies off at school & passed by the high school this morning, a huge crowd was gathering in the parking lot. They were all dressed in camo in Bailey's honor & had made a memorial at her parking spot. So many of those kids don't know the Jesus who gave Bailey eternal life. I know that God will be glorified in this, and I believe that salvation will come to many as a result. But it really stinks right now.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." (2 Cor. 1:3-4)

" comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified." (Is. 61:2b-4)

"And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." (John 17:3)

"7 Things"

(by Miley Cyrus) Miley Cyrus - 7 Things - Single - 7 Things

7 Things by Miley Cyrus on Grooveshark

I've used today's song before, but today's post is:

So I thought I'd share 700 things you may not know about me...just kidding! How about 7?!

  1. I always return the grocery cart to its designated area.
  2. I can't handle plungers. I seriously can't even think about them without gagging. I don't know how to use them, either, so if the kids have need of it I just shut their bathroom door until someone else can deal with it. And once used, I don't want a plunger in my house. I have been known to dispose of one after it has been used. We keep ours upstairs so I don't have to look at it.
  3. I regularly break dental floss. My teeth are incredibly close to each other, which makes flossing difficult. My dental hygienist comments on this every time I go for a cleaning. She even said that she wouldn't blame me for not flossing every day, but then she quickly said that I need to anyways. :/
  4. Every time I see a taco truck, I want to stop & get a taco. I never have done it, but one of these days I will...
  5. My belly button is pierced. Please don't judge me. I know that navel rings have gone the way of "Tramp Stamps" & such, but I've just never taken mine out. They weren't seen as "trampy" when I got mine. Plus, nobody ever sees it. I've only taken it out a couple of times (for x-rays), & each time I think that I'll just leave it out. But my belly always looks so strange to me without it that I end up putting it back in. Maybe next time...
  6. When I was a little kid, I told people my name was Kerry (my brother's name). I'm not sure why I did that! When I ended up in middle school with a set of triplets who I had gone to daycare with (five or six years earlier), they remembered me as Kerry!
  7. Cockroaches horrify & disgust me. I seriously can't handle them & could probably write an entire blog post full of my cockroach horror stories. And I'm not exaggerating! Those disgusting creatures lived under the sidewalk of the house we rented for four years, and they'd freak me out when I would come home after dark. I may or may not have called Christopher from the car (more than once) & asked him to come and carry me inside, because I couldn't bring myself to walk in the middle of them. Blech! Seriously. I can't handle them. I was also tormented by them in the home where I lived when Chris & I were dating. They literally gave me nightmares. I could tell y'all several terrible stories from that time period, but I'm gagging just thinking about it right now. Maybe I'll talk about that part of life when I can stomach it. Gag.
I guess that's all the randomness I have for you today! Do you have seven random things that you'd like to share with me? Or maybe just one?

"Anchored in Love"

(by Jenny & Tyler) Anchored In Love - Faint Not

I went on a women's retreat with around 100 beautiful ladies from my church this weekend, and it was super (as usual)! We had wonderful times of worship and teaching, and we had a lot of fun, too! I forgot my camera and rarely had my phone with me, so I didn't get any pictures. I'm hoping to get some from friends, so I'll be sure to post them & tell y'all more about the retreat then.

If you know me at all, then you know that I stayed up too late on the retreat, so I'm heading to bed soon! Ftr, I have made a conscious effort to get to bed earlier lately. Last Monday, I told Elly that I was going to try to get to bed by 10:00 every night last week. I asked her if she thought I could do it, and she replied, "You can try." I thought that was a great answer, because she knows her mom. She didn't want to discourage me by flat out saying that I couldn't do it, but she knew I wouldn't be completely successful. I'll have you know that there have only been three of the last 12 nights that I didn't make it. Last Friday I went to bed at 11:00, I was in bed at 10:15 on the night before the retreat, and I didn't get to bed until maybe 12:45 last night. But considering previous years, that's pretty early for a retreat! :)

As for the song, I've been listening to Jenny & Tyler a lot this week. I have posted this song before, and it actually came in 2nd this week. But the one that I really listened to the most isn't available. When they post it on YouTube or something, I'll be sure to post it for y'all here! :)

I hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend! ♥

"Learn My Lesson"

(by Daughtry) Learn My Lesson - Leave This Town

Learn My Lesson by Daughtry on Grooveshark

Though today's song is talking about relationships, I've been thinking about it as I've been singing these lyrics to myself, "You'd think that I'd learn my lesson by now..." Plus I haven't posted a Daughtry song in a loooong time, so I thought it was a good idea...

Anyways, this is probably not news to most of you, but sometimes I overcommit myself. And I now realize that I need to stop taking on more responsibility than I can [or need to] handle. I'm not exactly sure what that looks like, though. I don't plan on quitting anything that I'm currently involved in. But for starters, I'm going to begin saying something along the lines of, "What does that entail?" before I commit to something. I know that seems simple, but I don't guess it has ever crossed my mind to ask that.

If you can't tell, I've been doing a little introspection this week. When friends have asked me how I'm doing lately, my most common response has been, "Overwhelmed." And I don't think that's how God wants me to feel. Yesterday, I did something that isn't typical for me: I decided to stop doing something that I was in the middle of doing. It is typical for me to get distracted while in the middle of something or get called away from doing something & not get back to it. But I pretty much never just decide to stop doing something. And it was liberating.

Brooke, please don't get mad at me, but what I stopped doing yesterday was running. I didn't stop forever (though I'm not sure I'll continue after Kirby's run); I just stopped for the moment. Because I realized that there are a lot of things in life that I have to do. Some of these things are good, some are bad, some are hard, some are time-consuming, and some are neutral. And yesterday I was feeling overwhelmed by a few of those things that I had to do. And I realized that running wasn't one of them. I didn't have to run, so I stopped. I've done the training program & completed 3 miles in less than 30 minutes. I'll survive Kirby's 5K whether I completed yesterday's run or not. So I didn't complete it. And it felt good.

I don't know why I feel compelled to tell y'all about it. I'm probably posting this more for myself than anything. God has me in this place of adjusting and stretching. I'm not real sure what the end result will be, but the subject of this post is one of the lessons I'm learning along the way. What has God been showing you lately?

(by Hawk Nelson) Words - Made

This week has been super! Well, aside from being partially responsible for the death of a lizard & leaving work in tears one day...but we're only going to talk about the super part!

I got to see my friend Kim at church on Sunday! {Did I tell you she's moving back?!} Of course, that was super! But I also got official news from another friend...Do you remember awhile back when I was sad because my friend was moving? Well, guess what?! SHE'S MOVING BACK, TOO!! It's official...this will be the best year ever! First Kim and now Nichole! How exciting is that?! :)

If you're friends with me on Facebook, I hope you haven't been annoyed by my pictures today! But we've been making a bunch of yummy goodness for our student ministry's dessert auction!! I've told y'all about it before, but in case you forgot...The dessert auction is a fundraiser for summer events. We transform the sanctuary into a dining hall where the students serve lunch and host the auction. Because the students' desserts usually go for me, my girl has made something every year since she has been in the youth group. This year both of my kids get to participate! I took pictures on whatever device was handy, so there's an assortment of styles for your viewing pleasure...

Cody and Alex made an Oreo Ice Cream Cake:

Elly & I made Party Balls...

...and a Dr Pepper Cake. I didn't take a picture of it, because it's not pretty (not that Party Balls are, either). But it contains the following ingredients (& more):

As for the song, I (once again) have absolutely no idea what I've listened to the most. But Hawk Nelson released a new album this week, so I thought I'd post a song from it! Their lead singer left the band last year and was replaced by their drummer, so they still have a very similar sound. I wasn't sure how I felt about it all at first, but I think they'll do alright! :) And I'm quite jealous of my beautiful cousin Kendra, because she got to see them today (right now, actually)! And to prove the fact that not only are we cousins, but we are meant to be bffs...this song was planned before I knew that she was going to the concert! And because I'm living vicariously through her right now, let's just pretend I was there with her when she took this picture:

I hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend! ♥

P.S. I didn't do anything to change the font on the majority of the post, but it's way better, no? And when I noticed it & came back to type this, it's the default font down here. Can anyone clue me in as to how that happened without me actually changing it?!

"True Colors"

(by Cyndi Lauper) True Colors - The Essential Cyndi Lauper

True Colors by Cyndi Lauper on Grooveshark

Elly & I had so much fun doing the Color Me Rad 5K on Saturday!!

As a little side note before I get started, though...I'm so glad that I posted the above picture on Instagram and Facebook after I picked up our race packet, because I discovered that my neighbor & her daughter were going. So we got to ride together, which was super! Also, I was able to get some free pictures of me with my girl! I still paid for a few official photos, but we have way more pics this way!

Anyways, we started out with nice, clean, white shirts...

{One of you asked if I had a tattoo on my thigh. I won't call you out, but you can probably see better in this bigger picture that it's not a real one! ü}

...then we got pelted with different colors (in both dry & liquid form) at Color Bomb stations along the way!

I have absolutely no idea how long it took us to reach the finish line {Sorry, Brooke!}

We hung out there for a little while, because it seemed to be the spot where everyone took pictures...

Natalie said she wanted to take a picture of Elly & me with her camera, so we posed...little did we know that her friend's husband was waiting to bomb us! ü

I had joked that instead of dyeing Easter Eggs, we were dyeing ourselves...I'd say that was an accurate statement!

Near the finish line, everyone received a Color Bomb to release at the Final Color Bomb area. Natalie got this great shot of that:

Elly & I went to the photo booth after the run...

...and again after the Final Color Bomb:

It was super fun! Plus, a portion of the proceeds benefitted Special Olympics, so it was for a good cause! If you ever get the chance, I totally recommend doing one of these fun runs!!

"Password Rant"

(by Tobuscus)

Yes, I'm aware of the fact that today's video isn't a song. But this is my blog, and I make the rules around here. So today I'm posting a funny video instead. I also thought I'd post a funny story, but I can pretty much guarantee that the video is funnier! Anyways...

Awhile back, I was having trouble setting up online access to a new bank account. I kept trying over the course of a few days, because I thought there was a glitch in the website that would be fixed. But that was not the case, so I stopped by the bank to get some help with the issue from a very nice bank employee whom we'll call Dilbert. [name has been changed to protect the innocent]

Unfortunately Dilbert couldn't get it to work, either, even after calling a support line. We would get six or seven steps into the process, and then we'd get an error message and have to start over. He would type things into his computer, then he'd hand his keyboard off to me to enter a password. After several rounds, we would encounter the situation at around the 45 second mark of today's video. Because I had tried many times (at home and at the bank), all of my normal variations of passwords had been used up!

After about 30 minutes, we gave up for the day. It was a weekend, and they were about to close. Dilbert said he'd talk to somebody higher up in the support center on Monday & would call me after that. He did as he said he would do, and I tried again to no avail.

When I had the chance a few days later, I stopped by the bank. Dilbert and I tried a bit of a different process, yet we still couldn't get it all to work. When I was at a loss as to what password to try, he said he'd enter one that I wouldn't have used and I could change it later. I watched him type something in, then he looked up at me with a startled expression.

I realized what he must have typed: Dilbert123. And the computer had told him that the new password must not have been used in the past year (or something along those lines). I said, "See! I told you I was out of passwords!" He was surprised, and I was slightly embarrassed. But he said I earned some cool points for using his name in my password! ;)

For the record, I was never able to obtain online access. Apparently their website doesn't care about cool points! Have you ever encountered frustrating password situations?
