"Dulce"

(by Francisca Valenzuela)

If you follow me on social media at all, I'm sure you've seen this already. But just in case...

We got a new puppy!!!

She belonged to Rosa, Christopher's step-mom, but she now belongs to us! She rounded the corner when we got out of the car at their house, and she won my heart immediately. Her little tail was wagging, and she rolled over for me to rub her belly. I picked her up, and she starting kissing me...

She was just precious! Those pictures were taken before she was ours, so you can see how in love I was with her already! I carried her to the door, and as Keith opened it, I told him that I just might take her home with me. He responded with, "You can! Rosa wants a big dog." My first thought was that he was joking (as, of course, was I! Because who tells you their going to take your dog home and actually means it?!), but there was a part of me that really wanted to bring her home with us. Crazy, huh?

During our visit, we went outside a few times. The kids would play with her, and I would see her playing (adorably) with her sister, and I fell more and more in love.

When Rosa came home, she and Keith had a conversation in Spanish, and I heard the word perro. They were talking about the puppy! Next thing I knew, we were getting ready to leave, and they were telling me that she was ours if we wanted her. Somehow the kids and I convinced Chris that we should take her.

It was crazy and impulsive...

This is what happens sometimes when you take the kids to their grandparents' house, right?

We brought a dog home from Pops and Abuelita's...

This was not on our list of things to do right now. We are not impulsive people, and I am still in a bit of shock that we brought her home. But we did. And one day we'll be very happy about it! Right now she's 12 weeks old and definitely in the puppy stage. She doesn't have accidents all of the time, but she has had at least one almost every day since we brought her home. She likes to chew on things (like our fingers and the furniture), so we have to watch her like a hawk. And she cries loudly when she's in her crate and knows we're awake (and sometimes when we're asleep). But she is super cute...

Her name was Shadow, but we decided that she needed a Spanish name since she's part Chihuahua, and Rosa is from Mexico. Also, I've been wanting a pet whose name begins with a D since before we got Pepper {because we have the letters ABC and E covered already} and was determined that it would happen this time! We tossed a few ideas around and asked Alejandro for some suggestions. She was such a sweet puppy that we thought Dulce was fitting. Her mom's name is Diamond, so we liked Alejandro's suggestion of Diamanté. And since she had belonged to Rosa, we thought we should incorporate her name as well. We ultimately decided on Dulce Diamanté de la Rosa, and we call her Dulce!
