"In the Summertime"
(by Adam Hicks, Daniel Curtis Lee & Hutch Dano)
It's the first day of summer, and I'm excited for several reasons...
First and foremost, I get to sleep in! Granted, that may only mean until 8:00 at the latest, but anything beyond 6:10 is later than usual. So 8:00 would be super great ~ not before 7:00 like this morning!! Why is it that my body wants to wake up before 7:00 regardless of what time I went to bed?! That SO doesn't work for this night owl, but that's what happens every time I have the opportunity to sleep in. Yet I can't seem to make myself go to bed earlier. I try, really I do!
Anyways, I'm hoping to make the most of my days & get out on my bike early in the day before it gets too stinkin' hot. {I'll let you know how that goes!} The main reason I got the bike for Mother's Day was so I would actually get out & ride it! If my family had waited until my birthday (at the end of July), I'd probably think it was too hot to get out there on it! The theory is that I'll be in the habit of riding it, even when it gets super hot in August. {Again, I'll let you know how it goes!} So far, so good ~ but this is just the first day! I have somewhere to be, so I only got in 4-5 miles. But the temperature wasn't too bad (yet)!
I'm also hoping to spend time with Jesus on my patio "sanctuary" as often as possible ~ but again that'll have to be early! I like to sneak out there when the kids are home, otherwise they're a bit of a distraction. Now that they're older, it's not as difficult to have alone time. But it's still something that I have to actually set aside the time for. Otherwise we get busy with our day, & it's hard to find the time to sneak away and be alone with God.
This summer will also provide some opportunities to mark a couple of things off my list, so I'm looking forward to that! I haven't accomplished anything on it in quite awhile, so I should have a few posts in that little series over the next couple of months!
I also have typical summer plans like taking the kids to the neighborhood pool, going to the beach, youth stuff, helping with VBS, a little trip with my family, and hopefully squeezing a little scrapbooking in when I can! I'll probably work a little, too. Oh, and I plan on holding some babies! I'm done having babies of my own, & I won't be a grandma for a super long time ~ so I plan on holding my neighbors' babies as often as they let me! {I must be suffering from Caleb withdrawal ~ hint hint!}
I've also decided that this summer is time to start a new series! Don't get too excited ~ it's not really a big deal. It's just a little something that has been on my heart for a long time (like years before this little blog ever existed), & I decided that it's finally time to do it! Tune in on Monday for the first {or maybe the last} post in that series...
Well, the kids & I are heading off to Amy's & the pool today! Y'all should be so proud of me, because I'm actually running into the store AND dropping by the church (where I'll see people I know) without a speck of makeup! {That's a big step for me, so I should hear a cheer all the way from Tennessee!}
What have y'all got planned for the summer?

I'm hoping to dust off my bike in the morning...but hopefully not too early.
