"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"

(by the Rolling Stones) (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Hot Rocks 1964-1971

I've mentioned the fact that I'm leading a Bible study at church this Fall, but I never did tell y'all anything about it! Based on the video, you probably figured out that we're doing the book "Made to Crave" by Lysa TerKeurst. One reason I chose today's song is because she referred to it in the Intro of the book, and she sang it on the video for the first session! {I totally think we could be friends! She bursts out in song almost every time we watch a video & refers to a song in at least every third chapter of the book! Ü}

The study is going very well, and I think the ladies in both classes are getting a lot out of it! But can I confess something to you? This entire time, I have felt like I am totally inadequate to lead it. I know that God put it on my heart for our church to offer this type of study, and He confirmed it several times through several situations. I've just wondered why God would use me to lead it. My struggle with food is the complete opposite of what we're studying, & I in no way, shape, or form feel like I have the victory in regards to food. I don't feel totally defeated either. It's just that my weight has been down for the past six months, so I sorta feel like a hypocrite or something. Anyways, I guess all of that is to say that while I don't struggle with overeating, I do still have some unhealthy eating habits. So it has been good to read this book & discover some powerful truths.

Something I never realized before this study was just how much the Bible talks about food. I mean, food has been an issue since the very first sin! It was also something Jesus was tempted with in the wilderness. And do you remember where the disciples were while Jesus was talking with the woman at the well? They were out getting food. And when they came back, they didn't seem to care that he was ministering to someone ~ they were more concerned that Jesus eat something! There's another bit of scripture that I never noticed until a couple of weeks ago ~ Psalm 107: 17-20. These people had issues with food [they actually loathed it & were near death!] and God healed them. Another verse from the same Psalm has been somewhat of a theme verse for the study:

"For He satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things."
(Psalm 107:9)

What the study boils down to is finding our satisfaction in God.

There are so many great scriptures I could quote about that, but for now I'll share just a bit of what we discussed last night:

"I have loved you even as the Father has loved Me. Remain in My love.
When you obey My commandments, you remain in My love,
just as I obey My Father's commandments and remain in His love.
I have told you these things so that you will be filled with My joy.
Yes, your joy will overflow!
This is My commandment:
Love each other in the same way I have loved you."
(John 15:9-12)

I'll close with what Lysa had to say about that verse. I've read the following quote over & over again since I first saw it (while flipping through the study guide this summer). I hope it speaks to you like it does to me:
We are taught to remain in God’s love so that we won’t tie our happy to anything but God. So our joy will be complete. Complete. As in not lacking anything. Complete. As in filled up to the brink with joy no matter if we are wearing our skinny jeans or not. Complete. As in satisfied with a fullness we can’t get any other way. Can you imagine how beautiful it would be to live as a complete person?

Doesn't simply reading that fill you with joy & hope?! ü

my favorite part about the Bible and food is that His diet (aka kosher) is probably one of the most healthy you can eat.

only they didn't have science back then. He said "do it because i said so" and they did and were blessed for it. We can look at that and see that His "because I said so" is for a reason, just one we couldn't understand at the time

Interesting point Brooke. That looks like a really cool Bible study. I think most women deal with food issues in one way or another the way that men deal with "women" struggles. One time this girl and I were discussing the joy and euphoria that comes from drinking a Chic Fil A milk shake. Jeremy thought that girls were so weird and that we talk about dessert like guys would talk about wanting to be with some girl or something. Later it occurred to me that maybe it's the other way around. I told him I thought that guys were the creepy ones talking about girls as though they are milkshakes ;)
