"What Matters Most"

(by Ayiesha Woods) What

I don't have much time today, due to MOPS & getting ready for my baby girl's sleepover tonight! Here's a peek:

So, I thought I'd post what I shared for my MOPS Mentor Moment last month...

I spoke about priorities & how every mom (person, actually) that I know seems to struggle with them. While I don’t have any concrete answers on how much time should be spent doing ___(fill in the blank)___, I offer what I hope will help us focus on the things that really matter...

First, we did a little purse inventory game. It was sorta like that baby shower game, only there were no prizes! I read a list of items that were possibly in their purses/diaper bags: hair band/clip, toy car, tweezers, old list, pacifier, brush, snack, & used gum. Seriously, I have found a wad of used gum in my bag before {wrapped up, of course ~ probably in an old list!} I have also been known to find a Christmas list when I finally got around to cleaning out my purse during Spring Break! Anyways, there are things in my bag (& probably everyone else's) that are totally unnecessary.

You probably see where I’m going with this...not only are there things that we carry around in our bags that we don’t need, but we also have things in our lives that are really unnecessary. I want to encourage you to take a moment to do a little inventory of your life. Think of the things that are positive, negative & neutral...Family, friendships, activities, the internet, whatever occupies your time.

If they are positive things, & you know that they please God, then keep doing them!

But, do you have things in your life that are negative? Unless they are things that God has called you to do (but you just don’t feel positive about them) they are of no use to you or anyone else! {I then gave the moms "permission" to let these things go! Sometimes you just need someone to tell you to stop, so I did! & I'm telling YOU now: let it go!}

If they are neutral things, then pray about them. If you feel convicted, let them go. If they are time-killers, then they’re probably in the negative category. I’m not talking about things you do to relax ~ a bubble bath can be a healing thing, & sometimes it’s nice to just escape in a good book, catch up with friends on facebook or do a blog-hopping! But if they are regularly stealing time away from something you know God wants you to be doing, then set a time limit. If you are having a hard time letting go of something, ask a friend to hold you accountable.

We have such a brief time with our kids that I hate to see it wasted on something as useless as used gum, instead of on things that really matter!

I closed with these verses:

“I pray that your love for each other will overflow more and more,
and that you will keep on growing in your knowledge and understanding.
For I want you to understand what really matters,
so that you may live pure and blameless lives until Christ returns.
May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation
~those good things that are produced in your life by Jesus Christ~
for this will bring much glory and praise to God."
{Phil 1:9-11}
