“A Love That’s Stronger Than Our Fear”

(by Derek Webb)

I don't know if you've checked out any of Derek Webb's stuff, but I really like him. I don't know if you remember my post on Inauguration Day, but that was one of his songs. He is a pretty controversial former (& maybe current again?) member of Caedmon's Call. He's not afraid to say what he's thinking, politically or otherwise. He tends to cross the line that mainstream Christianity has drawn. Apparently, he uses profanity in a song to Christians about hypocrisy & getting hung up on people doing wrong. I don't know why he felt the need to use profanity, but I get his point.

I'm not sure if his theology is messed up (as some Christians say), or if he really is trying to reform Christians who judge instead of love. I'm definitely a fan of following Jesus & loving others despite their sin. But, I'm not one to make excuses or justify sin, either. I feel that Jesus calls us to be holy, as He is holy. It's all about loving Him & having a relationship with Him that will cause you to be like Him. It takes time, though ~> a lifetime, actually. And, some of us are a little slow! Look at the Israelites, who continuously saw God provide for them & do miraculous stuff. Yet, they continued to rebel & turn away from Him to worship idols made of their own hands. I'm doing a Bible study on the book of Judges right now, and it's crazy to see their cycle repeated over & over again. Unfortunately, we are still like that today ~ the miracles may not seem so obvious, and the idols don't, either.

Anyways, thanks for chasing that rabbit with me today. If you have any thoughts, feel free to share them with me! I'm not even going to try to interpret today's song, but I fully believe that there is "a Love that's stronger than our fear".

i have a friend who was saved after reading the OT stories of the isrealities - realizing that we are just as messed up as them.

i get frustrated reading how often they turn their backs on God, but I know that I'm no different.
